I know this is basically an x-post from my artbound thread, but it also applies here too...
Okay, so here’s the scoop. I’m performing at SXSW this March as previously reported with a band including Clark “Plazmataz” Powell and Erik “Jit” Scheele (both of Homestuck fame), multi-instrumentalist Mark Nabors, and electronic musician Riki Tsuji, along with artist/musician/dancer Tavia Morra. We’re going to be playing a high profile show for lots of people with expensive tickets as well as a free show or two for fans who might not be able to show up, and we need your help in funding it!
We need $3000 to fund our Kickstarter project so that we can cover everyone’s travel expenses, food costs, equipment costs, etc and do the first major performance of Homestuck music ever as well as material from my solo albums, Mobius Trip and Hadron Kaleido and Ithaca. Erik, Clark, and Mark live all over North America, and when I wrangle them into Austin to rehearse in the weeks before the concert (sometime between March 13-1it will be the first time we’ve ever met in person!
Why should you help? Well, aside from giving us the chance of a lifetime to perform together as a band at a major concert venue (a band which could potentially continue performing Homestuck music and otherwise) we’re also offering some cool incentives! If we can raise $3000 before March 3, 2012, we’ll be able to offer many fabulous prizes to the donors including the following:
- Song commissions based on whatever suggestion you like
- Video commissions for my youtube channel
- Autographed copies of Ithaca
- Postcards with a doodle from me
- A lunch date with me to Top Notch, my favorite burger place (vegan options also available!)
- Plus, anyone who donates will be added to a list of names to be read during the bridge to “How Do I Live”, which I will begrudgingly perform for an enormous audience of pretentious music critics and hipsters!
So get to the Send Bowman and His Band to SXSW 2012 fundraiser page and make this dream a reality! If you like music, cool prizes, and any of the many cool people who will be performing in this band, please, this is your chance to really make a difference in our lives and our dream to meet and perform together as a band come true! Peace out!

^^That is so awesome I can't even...just...whoa.
I'm too young to make silly donations on my own, but I hope it works out well.
How much will the tickets be?

Also, is this song legal?
I... might end up making some sort of a donation if I can.
Out of curiosity, what kind of Homestuck music would we be talking here?

E: if we get the 15 option, can we still suggest a bow-video?
yo bowman, I just donated $25
can my jingle be about
I dunno
hmmm
maybe just like how cool I am or something
I've always wanted a song about that
my real name is colin if that helps
woot as of posting this I am the highest roller, so to speak
Song commissions can be about whatever - I'll probably end up doing a lot of funny ones - but I won't post them to my bandcamp store if they're Homestuck-related. Better off coming up with something personal.
Considering the length of the fundraiser, you obviously have plenty of time to think about what kind of song you'd commission! Go on and come up with something nutty.

okay I will do just that :I
Sigquotes, my Soundcloud, and folders for Kanaya, the Derse Siblings, and General-JWJ's SBaHJ-style comics below!
This is what's up with the colorful candycorns. Don't see one suited for you? ADD IT.
I feel like I'm the only one who knows a little more than nothing about music before entering this contest. I have a different problem than "I am bad at music. Make me good at music." (I kid) I got a bass, and could probably do some awesome recording. If I had a recording mic. You see the only mic I had were two Guitar Hero microphones, but they broke. Whenever I need to record something for fun, I have to use a headset. From 1998. What is a good cheap mic I can buy, or another way of recording?

Shure SM58 is pretty decent for everything. It's rather affordable, too. And durable! Mine is still alive after being dropped a few times. I've since upgraded, but it's still really good. You'll also need a pre-amp. I have an M Audio Fast Track USB Pre Amp, and that's nice. Plus directly into ye olde computer so it's easy to set up.

Psst. Click here for a Homestuck song. Also known as capriQuarius, like on the IRC and Pesterchum.
I think Bowman's going to be getting this month's commission money if I can afford to/manage to get enough art-for-electronical-monies done in time. (Either way will also depend when my computer's fixed and how much that ends up being)
But regardless, this is way too cool of a thing for me not to support.
Better start trying to figure out some rhymes for "Guybrush Futurewood", Bowman.
Missed some questions about SXSW, so let me get those really quick.
SXSW is kind of a big expensive event where you buy a pass for some amount in the hundreds, so if that's your cup of tea you can go to this page. However, it's pretty generally accepted that the badges are for rich people, other bands, and critics, so most bands (like ours) host free shows so that their regular fans can attend. We'll announce the time and venue for that show when we get the chance. How much will the tickets be?
I'm planning on doing my own "hits" at the very least, specifically "Sburban Jungle", "How Do I Live", "Ocean Stars Falling", "Warhammer of Zillyhoo", and tracks off of Mobius Trip and Hadron Kaleido. Also we're really kind of hoping to do some other tracks - perhaps I can convince Jit to give us a live rendition of "Gamebro" at one of the free concerts, and we're hoping to get Tavia to actually do some "Even in Death" belly-dancing.Out of curiosity, what kind of Homestuck music would we be talking here?
Mention it to me when requests go out for personalized doodles and messages on the CD's and I'll see what I can do.E: if we get the 15 option, can we still suggest a bow-video?

Welp
Remixes are always nice
So is Eidolon
And Ruins
Well, I know music, I'm just not entirely certain how to properly compose a piece.
The last time I composed anything I was in 3rd grade and writing sheet music while testing it using the school instruments while being guided by my teacher. I've never tried making something using a computer program, nor have I ever tried recording anything. That wouldn't matter though considering the only instrument I own is a Clarinet, and I don't have any reeds for it right now.
Making something from scratch using Reason is actually proving to be pretty fun and not a complete failure.
