@frozenMeatpopsicle thanks for the explain about the colors info.

and i like the several design of the john and colors most likely i like the Grimdark and prospit ^^

but my other question is, is these characters coming out of different stages or u can choose before u going stge? (like super smash brawl form Wii)

@Darlos: Okay, it's a command then. I've changed the wiki so it reflects this. Now you hit u+F+H to go into Grimdark mode, same traits and stuff as it had before. I've also modified the Flip-out. It actually states that it can only be used while Grimdark now(this is how it worked before, but didn't really say in it's description). I also added the condition that the sooner you use it, ie. the more meter you still have, the stronger it is. Probably a good balancing tool, that way you can't just wait 'til you have 1 pixel of meter left and have it be just as powerful.

@sua: If I'm reading that correctly, yes, you will be able to choose the stage you will be fighting on.

Oh... actually, I think the FFO should be at the same power regardless of how much meter has already been expended in grimdark mode. I mean, the whole thing is just an FFO divided into two stages. And if they can manage to time it so they do the final attack when they have one point of meter left, more power to them I say.

Really if anything makes Rose broken, it's not going to be the power of her FFO final attack.

Alright, I've amended that bit to a maybe. That way it's simply a reminder if need be.

I thought you weren't adding any palettes?
Also, I guess this is my first post in this thread. Hi. :P
I'd love to help with something, but I can't really.

I think you might be confusing costumes with palettes. Palettes are simply color swaps. No additional work, other than creating the palette files are needed. Costumes are completely new drawings that need to be done. Exactly 1 new drawing per frame of animation is needed for a new costume, ie. what is essentially a new character.

It wouldn't be quite as much work, considering you wouldn't have to program all the moves and whatnot again, right?
Not that I'm denying the effort required.

The coding isn't the issue, it's the making of every single frame over again that would explain the likening. As he had said in the post you quoted from.

Yea, of course all the framedata could be duplicated or copypasted or all the new art simply being imported into a duplicate character package. But that isn't the point.

While you wouldn't be making each frame from scratch, you would have to manually process and edit each individual frame of animation. Since that could be upwards of 1000 frames of animation per character, it's time we don't need, or really want to invest at this moment.

You have to redraw the character every time. Ever single frame needs to be redone for costumes.

Considering the fact that these characters can potentially have 1000+ frames, yeah, it's a lot of work.

I have made my long delayed return to this topic and I'm feeling in the mood to work given that my regular boredom occupier is not as time consuming as it used to be.

Quick question, was this a mistake or something seperate: Under "Lives" it says x99 but there are 2 out of 10 life nodes highlighted? I don't understand why you have life nodes and individual lives.

I think the life nodes are representing total health of one life, not extra lives.

Which isn't a good idea, by the way. Too much stuff to keep track of visually. Health will just be one single bar, regardless of how much health the character actually has.

    Re: Homestrife 4⅓ - Development Thread 2

@Pingu: It definitely contains all of the info we'd want, but there is a few critiques I want to make:

    - The word "Lives" is unnecessary. You could easily just put the 'x99' next to the icon and people would understand what it means. You need to take into account that you won't always have multiple stock. It could just be a traditional timed match like in any 2d fighter, or it could be a SSB styled time match, where lives are unlimited.
    - The life nodes are completely unnecessary, as has been mentioned by Darlos already. Adding to this, I'd say the health bar is too thin, but removing the nodes would add room to thicken it.
    - Another unnecessary thing is the player color outline. People know what player they are. The combination of the character icon/color and the nickname will be more than enough info to identify where your HUD is.
    - 4 character names is too limiting. Yes, Brawl has a 5 character limit, but we're not SSB. It's a silly, arbitrary limit. If what you mean is only 4 characters are displayed, then even that is silly. You could easily just have the full nickname just underneath the enclosed HUD.
    - Not so much a critique as it is a guide, just like I told Aduross, I'd make the overall thing bigger. The maximum horizontal resolution will be 1920 pixels, so there's plenty of room to grow. Even when taking into account a timer. But then again, we are aiming to be able to scale it down to a lower resolution, but I don't know what our limit will be; 640x480? 800x600? 1024x768? No idea. Either way, design for 1080/1200p and we'll figure it out from there.
    - Overall it's pretty close to my original mockup, which I readily admit was pretty crap to begin with. I understand this is a quick mockup, but try to be more imaginative. If you haven't seen them already, here's all the ones we've seen so far in this thread in order of age.

SSB is also originally a Japanese Game. 5 Characters isn't that big of a deal over there, since a lot of names aren't more than 5 characters.

    Re: Homestrife 4⅓ - Development Thread 2

Very true, I get that, but people that use Japanese characters are not our primary demographic(but then "Homestuck fans" are our primary demographic so...), so for us it would be a silly arbitrary limit. Besides, it's not as if allowing more characters in a nickname would affect those people anyway.

Based on the use of the word also, I'd say he was agreeing with you and making an addendum, rather than a rebuttal.

Yea, probably. I did soften the post a bit after posting. My fault for kinda jumping on that. Wasn't meant to sound like any kind of a debate.

But I wanted to name myself "Kenpachi Ramasama" in Kanji.

    HUD 2.0

I made the special meter 50 segments long, so lets say the bar is 68% full, the meter will have 34 segments.

I'll continue to improve it as I receive more critique, so don't be afraid to nit-pick.
