See the Sound - A text adventure

In a word: Synaesthesia. Hope you don't get too bored with my text antics.

I'll probably end up doing some pencil drawings of the environments, and I'll post them as they get completed.

The Beat pulses reassuringly under your feet, and you know you've left that patch of Static. It's probably the biggest one you've seen ever. It used to be that Static was a rare sight, but now it's turning up much more often. You can hardly go anywhere without crossing Static nowadays. You know this because you're a wandering Melody, never sticking around in any one place, but remembered for a long time. Every place you go leaves its mark. It's not a drastic change, you can still be recognized after hundreds of bars of absence, but the longer you're away, the more different you look. You remember you used to be arpeggiated, but now you're more straight up chords than anything else. You've been told you're looking a bit atonal, but you feel just fine. Must be all the Static you pass through.

The Beat becomes more insistent, and it clicks - you've been here before. Multiple times. It's easy to get turned around in the Static, but you arrived right where you wanted to be - deadmau5. Looking around, you don't see any Harmonies or Rhythms you know, so this must be a new song. You were aiming for somewhere you've been before, but this is fine, it didn't matter that much anyway. Already, you see a few Harmonies coming out to greet you.

First things first, what's your name?

Yeah, that was it. You're Em. You would take a moment to congratulate yourself sarcastically on remembering your name, but you're too busy being swarmed by Harmonies. It's only been a little under a hundred bars since you were last in deadmau5, how the hell does a song so young have such a large population anyway? The enthusiastic greetings from all sides are almost too much for you to take...

You don't know what that means! Why would you give into a song? Unless every inhabitant was out to get you, then maybe that would be a valid option. Even then you'd probably not have a clue about what that is. Also, there aren't any Waves here. Those things are incredibly rare; you've never seen one.

Why would you do that? This is how Harmonies normally act. I mean, there are more than you were expecting, but still.

You look out over the crowd of Harmonies. Good thing you're tall. Must be the high notes, you didn't used to have those. Oh, hey, there's Largat. You wave, but you can't tell if he noticed, or if he did, if he thought you were just waving at everyone in general. The crowd gets bored and disperses. Sort of. They're still hanging around. Largat walks over to you and starts talking.

"Hey there, Em! Haven't seen you in a while! How have you been? I'm fine, I just moved here because Strobe was getting a bit crowded."

As per the norm, he sort of carries on a one-sided conversation. You supply your half belatedly, because you know it annoys him if you don't. It's sort of a Harmony thing.

You probably will, but that's way far away. That'd require a really long journey, so no, this isn't a thing you can do right this second.

This is also a thing that would require some time, but definitely less than actually going there. Melodies are usually wanderers like you. Still, it's a good idea, and you'll make sure to talk to any other Melodies you come across. In the meantime, you may as well catch up with Largat. It's been a while since you last saw him.

"So, how have things-"

"Oh, you know. Life as usual."

"-been going for you lately? That's good. I mean, a bit of excitement is never a bad thing, but-"

"Yes, stability is a very good thing."

"-too much of it generally isn't pleasant. Meet-"

"There's this Rhythm, Breabet, who's pretty fun to hang around."

"-anyone interesting?"

Rhythms and Harmonies usually don't get along too well. You might want to have a friendly chat with this Breabet at some point.

You finish catching up with Largat and do just that.

There's the aforementioned Largat, Kium, Hiat, Pahid, Chjor (you don't really know how to pronounce that, even after hearing it), and Fissi.

Kium and Hiat are both Rhythms, and Pahid, Chjor, and Fissi are Harmonies.
