Re: Let's Play Fire Emblem The Blazing Sword

    11) "WAHAHAHAHAHA!" -Misha

If the other realms of Lycia choose to act, Lyn will never reach Caelin alive.

Eliwood: Laus, Tuscana, Kathelet, Tania, and Santaruz. They will not interfere in Caelin’s affairs. This they have promised.

Lyn: Eliwood, I don’t know how to thank you…

Eliwood: All I’ve done is convince them to remain neutral in this dispute. However, this means I cannot aid you in any way either. Will you be all right?

Lyn: I will win. I have to. It’s the only way that I can help my grandfather.

Eliwood: I understand. Although I cannot help you directly, as a friend, I pray for your success.

Lyn: Thank you. I won’t waste the opportunity you’ve given me.

Sain: The weather is turning foul. It looks like a fog is rolling in.

    Oh god.

Kent: This is no good. If the fog thickens, we’ll be blind in battle. It will be difficult to fight what we cannot see.

Lyn: We can’t let it delay us, though. Let us press on. We must get closer to the castle. What’s the best route?

Kent: Let me think…Our best path is to the south…However, that runs through General’s Eagler’s estate.

You heard Kent, people. Let’s get this over with.

Preparations time! No rout this time around. It’s a seize objective, though we’re still going to kill everything on sight.

We’ll be dropping Nils and putting Rath in.

This map doesn’t look like much upon first glance, but you see the six fortresses circled in red? There’ll be reinforcements coming out of them. From turn 1 to 2, Archers spawn from the northeast fort and Brigands spawn from the southern fort and central mountain fort. From turn 1 to 3, Cavaliers spawn from the forest fort. From turn 1 to 4, Soldiers spawn from the northwest fort and Brigands spawn from the southwest Fort.

So lots of enemies will be coming in, which means lots of experience too.

Matthew: Surely you know that we…er…thieves, if you must, can see through fog. Follow me, everyone!

I’ll explain what Matthew says when the fog rolls in.

Hey, a knight! And this one’s on our side!

    Incoming BADASS coming in.

    Sain: Aah!

    Kent: You! You’re…Lord Wallace!

    Lyn: Kent, who is this?

Kent: He used to be the commander of the knights of Caelin.

Sain: Aren't you supposed to be retired? I heard you were sowing fields now.

Wallace: I am, and I was. Then I received orders from Lord Lundgren. I was told to capture an imposter and a pair of rogue knights.

Kent: Lord Wallace! Surely, you don't believe us to be oathbreakers, do you?

Wallace: Bring me the girl that claims to be Madelyn's child.

    Sain: What are your intentions?

Wallace: If I don't like what I see, I will take her.

    Kent: We will prevent you.

Wallace: You? Prevent me? You must be--

Lyn: Enough! I'm right here! I am Lyndis.

    Wallace: Ah…

Lyn: I'll understand if you don't believe me. But I've had enough of you and your foolish posturing!

    Wallace: Hmm... Such beautiful eyes...

    Lyn: Pardon?

Wallace: A person with eyes as bright and true as yours is no deceiver.

And when he says that line, this plays. Go listen to it. It’s awesome.

Wallace: Why, I believe I'll even join your little band of mercenaries!

Sain: Are you... Are you serious?

Even Sain can’t contemplate the awesomeness that is Wallace.

Wallace: This old bull's pledged his loyalty to Caelin. I would never allow an usurper on the throne. Let's march!

Kent: Lord Wallace! He... He hasn't changed at all.

    Lyn: I like him. He's...honest.

    RESPECT.

Wallace: It looks as though it's time to take up arms once more. Gin! You're the tactician of this group, correct? What are my orders?

So now the game pushes us to promote Wallace. Basically, any unit over level 10 can be promoted using that class’s promotion item. Doing so will reset that unit’s level back to 1 and change their class, but almost all their abilities will improve, such as stats, movement speed, weapon usage, etc. Wallace here is level 12, so he’s eligible for promotion. Mind you, it’s a very VERY bad idea to promote right as you hit level 10 because you’ll be effectively losing 10 levels to gain stats with.

Wallace: Ha ha haaa! So you’ve noticed my knight crest, have you? You’ve eyes like an eagle, my friend! Once I used the crest, I’ll be even stronger! A terrifying thought, isn’t it? Ha ha ha haaaa! What are you waiting for? Order me to use the knight crest!!!

    And we do so.

Wallace starts off as a silly little knight…

…and turns into this AWESOME suit of armor.

    Harder, better, faster, stronger!

Wallace: Ha ha ha haaaa! Look! A giant walks among you! My defense is impenetrable! Come, break your weapons against me!

Let’s take a look at Wallace now!

Re: Let's Play Fire Emblem The Blazing Sword

NOW we begin the chapter proper. Lucius visits the nearby village.

Villager: What? You don’t? There’s a thick fog rolling in, and you have NO torches? Wandering about without a torch is…Well, it’s ridiculous! Here. Take one of mine. Use it when it’s foggy, and you can see a bit better. Hm? No need for thanks. I know all about you and your comrades. We all, well…Not one of us believes what Lord Lundgren is saying about you. We all want to help the marquess…and his rightful heir. Good luck!

Yay. Torch. When the fog rolls in, I’ll tell what the torch does.

We move everyone a bit forward and end our turn there. As we end our turn, reinforcements come in.

Enemy turn, the mercenary tries to attack Florina, but ends up dying in the process. Poor him.

On our turn, we send Wil to kill the soldier and Sain to block the eastern passage. Kent preps himself for the incoming brigand. The peak bonuses are ridiculous by the way: +2 Defense and +40 Avoid.

We inch everybody a little more forward and end our turn as well. Reinforcements come to sacrifice themselves for experience.

Enemy turn! Myrmidon bum rushes Sain to no avail and gets one-shotted in the process. Southeastern Brigand goes for Erk and hits, but gets a Fire in the face. Central mountains Brigand misses Kent and gets killed. Cavaliers and southern Brigands head towards Florina’s chokepoint. Archers from the northeast move towards Sain’s chokepoint.

    Oh balls.

Lyn: We can't hit an enemy we can't see. Keep your eyes open, everyone!

At this point, the fog-of-war rolls in and where I start properly explaining fog-of-war. In fog-of-war, the vision of all units is reduced down to a radius of 3 tiles. Thieves are helpful because they have a radius of 8 tiles, which is a saving grace. Torches are tools that initially increase a unit’s vision in fog-of-war by 4, but its effects decreases by 1 each turn.

However, there are two problems that I have with fog-of-war. One is that, if a unit charges into an enemy, that unit immediately stops in their tracks, ending their turn prematurely. And that’s extremely annoying.

But the real kicker in the balls is that the decreased vision only affects the player. Meanwhile, the enemy units have some sort of perpetual night vision going on. Yeah.

Basically, fog-of-war is IS’s go-to for making levels harder, and as an result, makes me frustrated at times.

    Well, back to the chapter.

Lyn takes out one of the brigands. Florina, then Rath take out a Cavalier. Serra heals Erk. Lucius downs a brigand in the peaks. And Wil arrows a soldier to death. The rest move up.

On the enemy turn, a brigand tries his luck on Lyn. He fails.

Strength. Man, my units are really strength-blessed.

A Cavalier tries to lance Lyn, but she dodges that. An archer pokes Kent for 1 point. Yay.

    Back to us.

Erk attacks the brigand despite low hit odds. He ends up killing the brigand, much to my surprise.

And gets a pretty good level too!

Wil decides to critical this poor fool.

Rath takes out the cavalier that attacked Lyn. Florina kills the Brigand near her. Lyn moves into the forest. Matthew takes a few step forward, so a Cavalier can be seen. Lucius moves down to take out the last brigand spawn, instead of Erk. Sain and Kent spear some archers. Pretty boring turn. We’ll end it there.

    Enemy Cavalier goes for Lyn.

    Lyn counters with unexpected critical.

Our turn now. I send Lucius to deal with the brigand.

    Goddammit.

Wil takes out the last of the soldiers.

Hey, this level’s actually pretty good!

On the enemy’s turn, the brigand suicides himself against Lucius.

And then Lucius earns himself this sparse level.

Alright, reinforcements are all gone. Matthew hits one of the soldiers.

Then we congregate everyone near the castle.

The soldier retaliates against Matthew, but gets killed instead.

    Dammit, Matthew.

The other soldier hits Matthew, but math is on our side.

And Matthew stabs the wanker in the face.

Now all there’s left is the boss.

Eagler has one damn fine moustache. Eagler’s our first promoted boss, and he’s a Paladin, the promoted version of the Cavalier. Unlike previous bosses, we actually have to be careful here because he’s carrying ranged weaponry, which means we can’t cheese him to death this time around.

Kent starts us off with a Javelin.

Kent: General Eagler! We found Lady Lyndis on the orders of the marquess. We’ve worked very hard to return her safely to Caelin.

Eagler: And yet you have no proof of the girl’s identity. Is that not true?

    Kent: Yes, but…

Eagler: Then our talk is finished! Draw your weapon and come!

Despite the hit odds, Kent actually scratches Eagler for 2 and dodges his attack. We send up Rath next.

    Eagler: No quarter for traitors!

Rath pokes him for 1 damage and dodges his attack. Sain follows up.

Eagler: Sain…I never imagined you could turn traitor.

Sain: Who’s the traitor here? I am following the orders of my sworn liege lord. Not Lundgren, but my true liege, the marquess himself!

Eagler: You speak with conviction. I think it’s time to test the bounds of your loyalty!

TASTE THE STORM OF MY LOYALTY. Sain misses and gets hit for 8. Ouch.

On the enemy’s turn, Eagler knocks Sain 10 hp with a handaxe.

    Let's send in Lyn now.

Eagler: She shall not pass beyond this place!

Lyn: I am Lyndis. I’m no pretender. I’d ask you to believe me, but your heart and mind seem set.

    Eagler: Enough talk…Draw your sword.

And so she does. With a critical. God damn, Lyn.

Eagler: The marquess…He knows nothing of this…His life is…There’s no illness. Only…poison…Please…for the marquess…for all of Caelin…

Is it a thing for Japanese games to abuse ellipses in death scenes?

    O_O

After that glorious level, Lyn seizes the gate and closes this chapter.

Re: Let's Play Fire Emblem The Blazing Sword

Kent: When Sain and I first became knights, he was our captain. Our teacher...

Lyn: I think he must have known we were telling the truth. Why did he force the fight?

Sain: Something must have... Lord Lundgren was exerting some kind of hold on him... Eagler was trying to protect someone. A friend perhaps, or family.

    Kent: …..

Lyn: May Lundgren never know the peaceful embrace of Mother Earth! I care not what others do. I WILL stop that man!

    YES! FINALLY.

    *crackle* *boom*

    Hausen: Lundgren... You... You fiend...

Lundgren: Your granddaughter is dead by now. And soon, you will join her.

Hausen: Lyndis... Why did this happen? I... I only wanted to see her once.

Lundgren: Have you lost all hope? Has your life lost all meaning? Then hurry up and die, you miserable old dotard! You and your precious granddaughter are in my way!

    Jesus, chill out, dude.

Next up: The end of Lyn’s chapter!

    --

    VOTING TIME!

Next chapter, we’ll be picking up an Energy Ring, which boosts a unit’s Strength / Magic by 2! Unlike the Angelic Robe, we need to use it as soon as we get, or else we’ll lose it when the chapter ends.

    The following units are exempt:
    Dorcas
Florina (She already got the Angelic Robe!)
    Nils
    Sain
    Wallace

    --

    What we missed!

If we sent Wallace against Eagler, we would have gotten this conversation:

    Wallace: Eagler!

Eagler: General Wallace... So you've sided with the girl too, have you?

Wallace: I fight for Caelin's honor, not for Lundgren's lies!

Eagler: Ah... Is that so? You are- Enough. There is nothing more to be said. I name you traitors all! Come! Do your worst!

Wallace: Fool... At the very least, let mine be the blow that finishes you!

Lyn likes critting bosses this run. Still, it makes for a nice dramatic effect.

Normally I'd say Lyn for the power ring, but... she's been growing STR like no tomorrow. So I'm going to say Matthew.

My vote's for Lucius. Him or Rath.

That and I've had times when Matthew gained nothing on leveling up. Literally not a single stat. On three separate occasions. Two of them on the same map. The RNG seemed to hate him on mine.

    my jaw dropped ahaha

    also GIVE IT TO NILS

    NIILS

I agree that Lucius (who seems to be Mag cursed?!) or Matthew.

...alternatively, give it to Lyn so she can Str max and actually be a useful Blade Lord

I'm going with Matthew. After all, ya gotta use him in at least a few situations since he's a thief, and it's not like he can't make use of the boost.

Lyn or Matthew. More STR for Lyn is never a bad idea. It also helps Matthew in the beginning, if you want to use him.

Yeah but the question is do you actually want to use Matthew or switch to Legault?

Re: Let's Play Fire Emblem The Blazing Sword

    12) The end of the beginning

Lyn and her band draw ever nearer to Castle Caelin. Within the castle's walls, Lyn's bitter enemy, Lundgren, awaits. A man who would kill his own kin for a throne.

Kent: You should be able to see Castle Caelin once we pass these mountains.

Lyn: Grandfather... I'll be with you soon.

Kent: Everything rests on this next battle.

Sain: Lundgren will not be receiving the reinforcements he expected. He'll move against us with everything he has soon.

    Good, good, Lyn. You’re learning.

Lyn: I will not be turned away! I will see my grandfather…I've come too far to let anyone stand in my way. This is it, Gin. This is our final test.

Alright, we’re ready to face Lundgren now. Looks like we need to seize the gate, with Lundgren’s ass parked on it.

Thirteen spots for this map, so everyone’s allowed in! So we’ll get started as soon as we see the map.

For Lyn’s finale, this map is kind of underwhelming. All we have to do is kill everything we see, hit that village for the Energy Ring, and seize the gate. The fort directly east of the castle will spawn Cavaliers from turn 5-9. Other than one another thing, the map is pretty linear.

Well, with that said, let’s begin.

We move everyone but Florina east. We send Florina south to deal with the mercenaries.

Enemy’s turn, a mage tries to attack Matthew, but he dodges.

As the enemy turn ends, Lyn quips in:

Lyn: Let’s go, Gin. We should press on while we’re still able.

    I’ll explain this later.

Our turn! We send Matthew to deal with the mage.

By the way, this Mage has 5 Loving Defense. We get Nils to help Matthew kill this asshole.

Serra patches up Matthew. Rath takes out the soldier and Sain swords the archer.

A meager level, but Sain gets it where it counts.

Everyone continues their trek towards the castle. Florina parks herself on a mountain for bait, so the mercenaries can attack her.

Enemy turn! A mercenary attacks Florina, but Florina leaves him at 1 hp. The archer can’t snipe Florina, but who cares about that. Another archer hits Rath for 2 damage, but Rath murders him back.

    And…it starts raining!

Rain is a pain in the ass. Most units have their movement speed cut by half when it rains. Meanwhile, the Cavaliers’ movement speed gets hosed, leaving them with 2 tiles of movement instead of 7. Nomads are the exception, where they get 4 tiles of movement. This is handwaved by the house nearby stating that nomads live on the plains and whatnot.

Rain is also really schizophrenic. From turn 3 to 5, we have to deal with rain. But on turn 5, it clears. Come to turn 9 and it rains again. On turn 10, the rain clears. Then on turn 15…you get the picture.

We’ll have to deal with this movement decrease for two chapters. Ugh.

    Anyway back to gameplay.

Florina takes out the archer before she gets hit for effective damage. Not that it matter much since you guys voted on that Angelic Robe.

We move everybody else as far as can be.

Enemy turn has a mercenary getting himself killed on Florina, the death goddess from the skies.

Thanks for the heads up, Lyn.

Anyway, the rain’s going to stop next turn. Florina takes out the last mercenary and we move everyone as down as possible.

Enemy turn. Nothing happens except a brigand heading towards a village. Whoopie.

    Finally, the rain’s gone!

We move everyone down. Florina takes out the brigand.

    Well, this is disappointing.

The Cavalier spawns start happening. The Shaman smacks Matthew for 10 damage. Gah.

Serra immediately heals Matthew and I have Matthew attack the Shaman.

    Dammit, Matthew!

Erk finishes off the Shaman and we move everyone down once more. I let Florina return to the group, since she’s got enough of the kills.

End turn, enemy turn, the enemy Cavaliers start moving into our group.

    Our turn now!

Now as democracy stands, Matthew will be getting the Energy Ring.

Old Woman: We're behind Lady Lyndis. All of us. Here, take this. Use it in your battle against Lundgren, please. It’s an energy ring. It’ll increase your strength and magic power a bit. There are a lot of items that augment your abilities. These are hard to come by, so think carefully before you use them. Of course, not using them at all would be a terrible waste as well, right? Items like these might vanish once you’ve use them. Bear that in mind, and use them wisely.

Unnecessary tutorial is unnecessary, but this is awesome!

Sain bodyblocks the bridge. We move everyone into position for the 4 Cavaliers. End turn.

    Cavaliers begin their charge!

Of course, Sain retaliates with a critical. Nicely done.

    Blah blah weather report

Don’t make me regret this, Matthew.

Great, now he’s actually combat viable.

Lucius lightnings the cavalier to death. We move everyone forward before the storm.

Cavaliers move in on the enemy turn, but they don’t make it far.

Our turn! Lyn has something to say.

Lyn: The rain won’t last long.

Which reiterates what I said awhile back.

    Lucius continues with his Lightnings.

Nils, while helping everyone move, gets another perfect level for himself. Wonderful.

    Rath checks out the stores.

Both these stores sell knight/general-killing weaponry. You’d think Lundgren, being a general, would notice.

Enemy’s turn. Cavaliers move into killing range.

The rain’s cleared up now. We have Kent weaken a Cavalier and Matthew finishing him off. Then we move everyone closer!

While spamming heal staffs, Serra earns herself this pretty sweet level.

Cavaliers move closer. End enemy turn.

    Erk casually crits the cavalier.

Rath gets to work on the Knight, dealing 8 damage. Then we move everyone closer. Man, I’ve been typing that a lot.

The Knight retaliates on his turn, hitting Rath for 10.

    Rath on his turn criticals.

    And gets a disappointing level.

Well, all that’s left is the boss! Let’s check him out.

Lundgren isn’t a dangerous boss for his stats. He’s a dangerous boss because of that silver lance. But he’s not too difficult. We also can’t leave any mages exposed because of that javelin. So we beat him in one turn to fix that solution.

    We send Erk in first…

Lundgren: You will not leave these lands alive!

Erk misses then hits for 6 damage…

    Lucius deals 12 damage…

With a bit of music, Erk deals another 12 damage…

Finally, Lyn faces the general off!

Lyn: You'll play this farce to the end, won't you, Lundgren?

Lundgren: The royal house of Caelin has no need of a Sacaen mongrel! I'll put an end to this foolishness here and now!

Lyn: To further your own black ambitions, you've harmed my grandfather and the very land you ought to serve. I have neither pity nor mercy for you. Lundgren, prepare yourself!

    Lundgren: Whelp!

And OF COURSE, Lyn has to end it on a critical. Always finish with style, Lyn.

Whoops! I missed the death quote. I’ll put in text form.

Lundgren: That annoying little girl…Nothing but a savage from Sacae... The Caelin throne...should be...mine...

Man, a dick to the end.

And Lyn gets an okay level. Bah. I was hoping for strength or something like the last times.

Nevertheless, we’re done with the tutorial! Hooray!

Re: Let's Play Fire Emblem The Blazing Sword

    Lyn: Who are you?

Reissman: I am Reissmann, the chancellor of the Caelin royal family. I had recieved word from Kent and Sain when you first met, but then Lundgren discovered the message and imprisoned me. It is my great pleasure to welcome you to your true home.

Lyn: Thank you. May I see my grandfather now?

Reissman: Yes, of course. Do not be shocked by what you see. Lundgren has been poisoning the marquess's meals for some time. His body has been ravaged... He's been bedridden for months.

Hausen: I said no visitors. I will see no one.

    Lyn: …..

Hausen: What are you doing? Leave me...to die...

Lyn: Um... Pardon me... My name is... I'm Lyndis.

Hausen: Eh? Did you say Lyndis? Is that...

Lyn: My father's name was Hassar, chieftain of the Lorca. My mother was...Madelyn. I was raised on the plains.

Hausen: ...Could it be? Come, come here. Let me see your face. Oh... Yes... There is no doubt... You are Madelyn's trueborn child...Uhhh…ahhhh…

    Lyn: Grandfather!

Hausen: Lundgren told me that my daughter had died. My heir...and you, too. He told me you were dead. Thank you... Thank you for living. Ahhhh... I am blessed...

Lyn: Mother and Father were slain last year by brigands. I... I was the only survivor. I lived on, but...

Hausen: Lyndis, please forgive a prideful old man. If I had but accepted your parents' love... There would have been no bandits. We would have lived here together in perfect peace.

Lyn: Our life was one of love and peace. The end was tragic, but…up until the attack, we were truly happy.

Hausen: Truly? Madelyn had a life of happiness? Knowing that gives me so much joy. Thank you, Lyndis. I can die in peace now...

Lyn: No! Grandfather! You musn’t say that!

Hausen: There's no avoiding it, Lyndis. I've taken too much poison for far too long. It's too late...

Lyn: Be brave, Grandfather! You will recover! Believe me! On the plains, we say that illness fails in the face of a strong heart! I am with you now! You mustn't give up!

    Hausen: You're...with me...

Lyn: Yes. We have so much to talk about. Walks to take, music to listen to. There's so much I want to do with you, so much lost time we can recover!

    Hausen: That does sound...nice.

Lyn: Doesn't it? And once you're well, I'll take you to the plains. I'll show you the endless sky, the oceans of grass... I want you to know the lands my mother loved so much!

Madelyn: The lands Madelyn loved... You're right. I still have...quite a bit of living left to do.

    Hausen: Lyndis…

Sain: Do you honestly plan on remaining here? Tell me truly!

Lyn: Yes, until my grandfather is well. I can't leave him now. I won't.

Kent: The physician says that Lord Hausen looks like a new man now. It's like he was never ill. And it's all thanks to you, milady.

Lyn: He's the only family I have left. I want him to have a long life.

    Florina: Lady Lyndis!

    Lyn: What is it, Florina?

Florina: I've been taken into service by House Caelin! From here on, Lyn... I mean, Lady Lyndis... We'll be together always!

Like I said before, Lyn and Florina have a…close relationship.

Lyn: Really? Oh, that pleases me so…but... Please don't call me Lady Lyndis. For you, I'm still just Lyn.

    Really close.

Florina: My pegasus and I fly for your house now. I am your servant. There are rules to follow.

    Lyn: Florina!

    Really really close.

Florina: I'm happiest when I'm with you. That's more important than how I address you…Please...

Dammit, Florina! Stop giving me context for me to use!

Lyn: I suppose I'll just have to get used to it, right? Very well, I understand.

    Florina: Oops! I mean…Lady Lyndis!

    Lyn: Ha ha ha…Oh, Florina!

Wil: Lady Lyndis! I've decided to stay, too!

Lyn: Wil? Weren't you planning on returning home?

Wil: Well, I was, but... I've grown quite fond of Lyndis's Legion, you know. I couldn't possibly leave everyone behind. I'll send word to my family regarding my decision.

Lyn: I'm pleased to have you, Wil. Thank you.

    Wil: Thank you, milady.

Yep. To the actual game. Don’t ask me you want me to go through the tutorial again.

    Good.

Lyn: It's just... I'll miss you. When I found you unconscious on the plains, I had no idea we'd be together for so long. You've helped us so much, and I'm sure you've learned all you can from us. You'll do just fine on your own. I have the utmost faith you'll be a master tactician, Gin. That's from someone who's seen you at work!

    Damn right!

Wait, did Lyn just warn us that the tutorial is over?

Well then, take care... I... I hope I see you again. I'm sure I will, someday...

And with that, the epilogue of the characters we have met. Where are they now? What are they doing? How many battles and wins did they have in this story?

    Kent, Knight of Lycia
    B 40, W 17, L 0
For his bravery in fulfilling his command, Kent is named Knight Commander of Caelin. It is a high honor for one so young, but no one denies his worth.

    Sain, Knight of Lycia
    B 43, W 19, L 0
Sain has earned the honor of being named subcommander of the Caelin knights. Despite his promotion, he still scoffs at authority and woos the village girls. He is much loved by the citizenry.

    “Loved” by the citizenry? Really?

    Florina, Pegasus Knight of Ilia
    B 35, W 24, L 0
Florina has arranged to stay in Caelin. She spends her every waking hour in rigorous training, hoping to become invaluable to Lyn. Her fear of men has lessened, but...only slightly.

Making progress there, Florina. And Florina is the MVP with 24 kills.

    Wil, Archer of Pherae
    B 26, W 13, L 0
With his cheery outlook and happy-go-lucky demeanor, Wil has become quite dear to Marquess Caelin's household. Kent is teaching him manners befitting a sworn man of Castle Caelin.

    Dorcas, Fighter of Bern
    B 5, W 1, L 0
Once Lyn's true heritage is recognized in Caelin, Dorcas returns to his home in Bern. There, he cares for his wife and makes a good living as a mercenary, fighting the local bandits.

    Serra, Cleric of Ostia
    B 0, W 0, L 0
Ultimately, Erk succeeds in seeing Serra safely to Ostia. While her behavior is irritating at best, she is sorely missed. Her ascerbic tongue has become legendary.

That’s how you use a healer.

    Erk, the Wandering Mage
    B 24, W 20, L 0
His contract with Serra complete, Erk sets off for Etruria. His time as a mercenary is just part of his training, and he is glad to see it end. He has since returned to his mentor.

    Rath, the Sacaen Nomad
    B 9, W 6, L 0
In the celebration following Lyn's return to Caelin, Rath slips out unseen. Whether he has returned to Sacae or continues to work as a mercenary, no one knows.

    Matthew, the Enigmatic Thief
    B 18, W 6, L 0
Matthew vanishes after the final battle, and his whereabouts remain a mystery.

    Nils, the Mysterious Musician
    B 2, W 0, L 0
Nils and his sister, Ninian, take their leave of Castle Caelin after a few days. He may well be travelling the land, mastering his musical skills somewhere.

    Lucius, the Travelling Monk
    B 18, W 13, L 0
Lucius studies in Caelin for a time, but he departs after recieving summons to another land. He has since been seen travelling with a hard-eyed mercenary.

    Wallace, the Caelin General
    B 0, W 0, L 0
For Wallace, Lyn's struggle only whets his appetite for battle. He sets off in search of a cause worthy of his blade. He lacks any sense of direction, so it may be years before he returns.

And I’m sorry I never got the use the awesomeness that was Wallace.

    Gin, the Tactician
Gin leaves Lyn to continue his training. He plans on travelling throughout Lycia. Lyn refuses to say goodbye, believing in her heart that she will see him again.

    Lyn, the Swordfighter from Sacae
    B 39, W 23, L 0
Lyn now lives with her grandfather as Lady Lyndis of Castle Caelin. Under her loving care, Lord Hausen recovers, and now the two of them go for many walks in the Caelin gardens.

Next up: The real game begins.

    --

    What we missed!

If we sent Kent against Lundgren:

Lundgren: Ah. One of the traitors. You must be...Kent, yes?

Kent: Lundgren, your treachery precedes you. I will not listen to any of your poisoned words!

Lundgren: You're a fool! You'll wish you'd never turned your coat!

And if we sent Sain against Lundgren:

Lundgren: Ah, Sain... You're not like that stubborn fool, Kent. You're reasonable. Leave this child, Lyndis, and stand at my side. You will go far in my service.

Sain: That is a gracious offer, my lord...

    Lundgren: Quite...

Sain: However, I am rather fond of my friend the stubborn fool. And if I am to pledge my service to any liege, I would choose lovely Lady Lyndis over Foul Lundgren, regardless of the risk!

Lundgren: Fool! I will make you regret your decision!

    But we didn’t.

I only like it as a method to make the units in her story not suck later and ONLY on HM

also because Matthew having the extra levels in Hector's is nice

...I should make a Sword of Seals let's play. yeah. totally.

except I hate playing it because ROMS annoy the SHIT out of me

Re: Let's Play Fire Emblem The Blazing Sword

Welcome to Eliwood’s story, where the real story begins. Unless you like going through Lyn’s story (which most of the time, you grudgingly do it because of experience), this is where the game intends for the player to begin.

    13) So, did you guys miss bandits?

Mankind vanquished the dragons thanks to the efforts of eight heroes. These eight mighty generals brought peace to Elibe. The continent was divided into nations as the people enjoyed an easy prosperity.

How much longer can this peace stand before its foundations begin to crumble?

for many generations, but which now finds itself touched by a shadow of unease.

as have a number of his sworn men, loyal knights who serve at his side. A month has passed without word from the marquess, with rumors of his death abound. However, the marquess's son believes his father lives, and has vowed to find him.

A red-haired knight who will one day become the finest knight in all of Lycia.

Eliwood: I see. Thank you, Marcus.

Whazzat what?! Your parents are ALIVE? That’s a first.

Mother: Eliwood... Promise that you will return to me safely. I'm worried about your father, but... If anything were to happen to you... My heart could not bear that sorrow.

Eliwood: I know, Mother. Please do not worry. Father is alive. I know it. I vow that I will find him and return him to your side.

Mother: I have your word then.

    Eliwood: Yes, of course.

Isadora: Yes, milord. I will guard over her well.

Eliwood: Mother, I will return. Rest easy.

Marcus: Not so, milord. My man Lowen will be travelling with us.

    Eliwood: Lowen? That’s reassuring.

Marcus: I've sent him ahead to the village. He hopes to seek out a few able men who are skilled at arms. Normally, I wouldn't venture forth without a larger company, but... I bow to your will on this matter, Lord Eliwood.

Eliwood: I'm sorry Marcus, but I would rather not deprive my mother of even a single guard. The best knights in the realm disappeared with my father. If anything were to happen to my mother while I am gone, I...

Marcus: I understand, milord. Hmph! What's keeping Lowen!?

Groznyi: Well, your misfortune is my good luck! I have an announcement to make! As of now, this village is mine! Groznyi is your new liege! Now bring every last piece of gold, down to the smallest fleck!

We’ve already heard some silly names, but his parents must have seriously hated him. I mean, “Groznyi”? Really?

    That must be Lowen.

    HOLY HAIRDO.

Marcus: Lowen, calm yourself! A knight must be in control at all times.

Lowen: The village is under attack! It's bandits!

    Marcus: What? Bandits? Here!?

Dude, give me a break. We are over bandits like six chapters ago.

    Eliwood: Are you sure, Lowen?

Lowen: This girl has more details.

Rebecca: I'm the daughter of the village magistrate. My name's Rebecca. The bandits came without warning. They're stealing everything! I beg you! Please help us!

Eliwood: I see. Marcus, Lowen! We must aid the village!

    Lowen: Yes, milord!

Eliwood: Rebecca, stay here and keep out of sight.

Rebecca: If it please you, milord, I would rather fight. I hunt almost every day, and I have some skill with a bow.

Eliwood: Is that so? Very well, but be careful!

    Rebecca: Yes, milord.

Lowen: Lord Eliwood, one more thing. There is another in the village who has offered to help. A traveling tactician who was staying at the inn.

    Eliwood: A tactician?

    Who else?

    We’re back, bitches!

Lowen: Do you know this person, milord?

Eliwood: Yes, I met Gin during the trouble in Caelin last year. A fantastic military advisor, if memory serves. If not for Gin, the marquess of Caelin and his granddaughter, Lyn might not have survived Lundgren's uprising.

Damn right, we’re a goddamn fantastic military advisor.

Oh, nothing much. Just bringing offerings and sacrifices to the RNG God.

    I guess that too.

Eliwood: Ha, still travelling about, honing your skills? Of course…A worthy pursuit. Let's give thanks to providence for our chance reunion.

Re: Let's Play Fire Emblem The Blazing Sword

Alright, let’s get this show restarted!

The chapter’s map is a step down compared to Lyn’s chapters. It’s pretty simple: Reinforcements from our side come on turn 2, hit the village, and seize the village gate.

    New story means new units!

First up, our new Lord, Eliwood!

    Next up, our resident Jeigan!

Coming up, that guy with the ridiculous hair!

And finally, the ranged goddess of death!

Alright, back to the actual mission. We send Lowen and Rebecca to weaken the brigand above. Then we send Eliwood to take him out. Oh, and Marcus rides up to the group.

Enemy turn: brigands and an archer edge towards our group.

And our reinforcements come on turn 2.

Oh hai Dorcas! And, um, new guy.

Big Nose: It's just like that knight said! That's Lord Eliwood!

    Dorcas: So it seems.

Big Nose: What's he doing? Hey, he's taking on those bandits. Protecting innocents? That's a right lordly thing to do, isn't it? Right, Dorcas?

Dorcas: You talk too much. The lordling needs our help.

Bartre: Right! Leave these mountain weeklings to me! I'm Bartre the Brave!

And our first returning unit from Lyn’s story! That was quick.

Let’s take a look at Mr. Big Nose here.

Dorcas starts off the turn by attacking the brigand. He takes 11 damage, but the purpose here is to let Rebecca get the kill.

Eliwood then doubles the Archer with his rapier.

Everyone moves up and we let Bartre visit the village.

Woman: We've heard nothing but foul rumors hereabouts... All of Pherae is worried for his well-being. We hear tell that Lord Eliwood is going to find the marquess. This dragon shield is our village treasure... It boosts the defense of the one who uses it. Take it, please. And may it see you and Lord Elbert home safely.

Hot damn. The Dragonshield raises a unit’s Defense by 2, which is handy for more squishy units. As with the Energy Ring, we’ll hold on to this for later.

Enemy turn now! Brigands move towards the group. Not much else happens.

Our turn now. We’ll get straight to killing.

Lowen and Rebecca once again weaken the brigand for Eliwood to get the kill.

Everyone moves left. Marcus gives all his equipment to Eliwood since he won’t be needing it.

    Eliwood gets his first critical.

And a decent level. Thank the RNG.

Eliwood gets hit by the next brigand for 6 damage. Ouch.

Rebecca gets a poke on the brigand while Lowen finishes him off.

Marcus goes to the vendor to pick up 3 vulneraries to pass around the group.

    Enemy turn: Nothing happens.

Our turn. I move Rebecca into the forest. Then I park Marcus and Lowen to protect her.

Enemy turn: Archer goes for Rebecca, but she dodges and hits back for 7. Brigand goes for Marcus and deals 4. Whatever.

Lowen takes a shot from his javelin to weaken the archer. Rebecca finishes him off.

Well, at least, she's working on that speed.

Bartre weakens the nearest brigand and Eliwood finishes him off.

We send Marcus to bait the last brigand forward.

Enemy turn: Brigand takes the bait, putting him in prime murder position.

Our turn! Marcus is done here, so we send him to the fortress to heal up.

Lowen and Eliwood weaken the brigand and Rebecca gets the kill!

    Boss talk time!

Oh god…Groznyi. I can’t type that without snickering. Anyway, this guy, like the chapter, is a step down compared to what Lyn had to face. This guy is wielding an Iron Axe, which should tell you not dangerous this guy is.

    Lowen gets first shot in.

Groznyi: You think you can challenge me? What? Pheraen knights!? But that's impossible!!!

Both Lowen hits, but gets hit back. Lowen’s down to 13, but he’s still good.

Rebecca gets her shot in for 4 points of damage.

On the enemy turn, Lowen’s health has reached to dangerous levels, but we’re about done.

Our turn, Lowen gets the hell out of there dodge and Rebecca gets one last shot in.

And Eliwood follows Lyn’s style of getting a critical on the boss.

    And…meh.

    We’re done here!

Re: Let's Play Fire Emblem The Blazing Sword

Magistrate: Our deepest thanks for coming to the aid of our fair village.

Eliwood: Think nothing of it. It's a lord's duty to protect the citizenry.

Magistrate: Would that were true, milord. The good folk of Laus know no such protection. Their marquess, Lord Darin, is too busy preparing for war. He ignores all complaints of bandits and thieves.

This “Lord Darin” sounds like a douche.

Eliwood: Preparing for war? Are you sure?

Magistrate: I would not lie, milord. My brother lived in Laus until a few days ago. His home was torched, and he had no choice but to flee here. According to him, Laus could go to war any day now. It's all the people of Laus are talking about.

Marcus: Lord Eliwood, if this is true, the situation is a grave one. If Marquess Laus is readying for war... His target is most likely another Lycian territory. Perhaps this is connected to Lord Elbert's disappearance.

Eliwood: My father and Marquess Laus? It seems a tenuous connection, but it's as good a start as any. Let us travel to Laus. We must learn more.

No problem. As long as you get good levels, we’re fine.

Eliwood: Where are you bound for next? If you have no destination in mind, perhaps you could travel with us. Ours is a small group, with a single purpose - to find my father. I do not know where our road will lead, but…we would certainly be stronger with you in our company.

Sure, I mean, you guys would be hopelessly without us anyway.

Eliwood: Thank you! I pray we give you no cause to regret your decision.

Yeah. That’s what you say now…

And with that, we ride toget-

    Oh yeah. We forgot somebody.

Magistrate: Don't be ridiculous, girl! Lord Eliwood is not going on a picnic. He's riding into danger.

No, we are going to a picnic, serving decapitated heads with swords, axes, lances, and arrows.

Rebecca: I know that, Father. That's why I want to go. We owe him our lives, and I want to repay him. My bow may not be all that much, but I know I can be of service!

    Magistrate: But...

Rebecca: And, Father... I may meet up with my brother somewhere. You're the magistrate - - you have responsibilities. I... This is all I can offer. I need to do this! Please, Father! Let me go!

Yeah! I didn’t feed her those kills just so she can be left behind!

Magistrate: Dear me... You're as stubborn as your mother was.

    Rebecca: I’m sorry, Father…

Magistrate: You must bow to Lord Eliwood's wishes on this matter. If he consents, you may go.

    Rebecca: Thank you, Father!

Magistrate: Lord Elbert has always been kind to us. Follow his son with a true heart, Rebecca. Serve Eliwood well as I have served his father.

    Good. Now we ride together!

I am of the opinion that this game's Marcus is the most balanced Jeigan in the entire series. He's almost an Oifaye but not quite so he almost definitely ends up inferior to your other units but he's never completely unusable and of course he has tons of moments to be useful without fighting.

Also now I'm holding out for lots of good Eliwood level ups since he's required and all. Shall we vote on the Dragonshield or not yet?
