p-friggin'-shaw. I have heard that exact line from every stereotypical misanthropic teenager I have ever had a discussion about society with. I do not completely hate anybody, but I do hate some people more than others, never without reason. The key is to realize who it is you hate and put effort into not acting on those emotions.

So what I'm getting from this thread is that to generalize is to be a stereo type who only FM on zh's boombox while TavFrog doesn't grow into a jerk by Eridan but Roxy get's drunk and racism is ok to make fun of if you sing it with puppets?

no, but what I'm saying is that even though there are evolutionary benefits to killing competitors or rape, don't mean that these are things you should do. because you shouldn't. like, ever. we're better than our base urges at this point in our evolution, or at least we should be. so even though there's a reason we as a species form stereotypes (it helps us navigate socially), that doesn't mean that we shouldn't strive to actively recognize that people exist as individuals and that we shouldn't assume those stereotypes apply to those individuals. because we should bet better than that

I cannot be entirely sure. The argument exists that people developed society because we could not get rid of the kill-ALL-the-people! gene as individuals. So we pretty much tricked ourselves into being good people. I have exhausted all of my knowledge of John Locke's philosophy at this point.

e: kmsumrall was entirely wrong about the puppets. Internal racism will always exist, but we should acknowledge this fact and not act on those judgments. Puppets just explain it best.
