Okay guys, I'm almost done with the next update. What I need from you is an idea for a gem. Keeping in mind that it would be the start of what will hopefully be a nice, progressively increasing in value, set of gems for the game. Thus, it needs to be valuable, but there needs to be lots of room for improvement.
Hrm... (this is assuming you also add precious metals)
Gypsum/Chalk
Feldspar (fool's gold, next to almost worthless)
Iron
Copper
Amethyst
Tourmaline
Topaz
Lapis Lazuli
Silver
Emerald
Gold
Sapphire
Ruby
Platinum
Diamond
Mythrill
Orichalcum
Adamantine

You've got your Johnvee and evolved him into Joltijohn and you're like well shit fuck this ground gym leader can't beat him. Gotta restart
But you wanna keep Joltijohn. So you trade Joltijohn to another game session.
You can now restart the old game. You still have Johnvee there to pick up again. He's the same but now he's different. He can live another life that's different from the original like turn him into Flarejohn.
You can also bring your old Joltijohn into your game too. You now how 2 Johns.
Summon gems. Their value is determined by the summon they contain? That way, price can just be a function of the stats of the summon, and their stats are a function of how deep they are in the mines. That is, assuming that mine depth is a variable.
<GenTrigger_> So like, I just heard from someone that the avengers was bad because it had multiple climaxes?
<Tam_Lin> Girls have multiple climaxes and they aren't half bad.
<GenTrigger_> But that's not true, I'd say it actually sort of follows the whole monomyth format- Tam time out now.
Summon gems are a good one. Whatever the gems end up being, they could also later be ground down for use in alchemy if that becomes a thing.
Another idea: All gems can have an area of effect if you wear them (in pendant form or whatever). This can create different status effects for enemies within the radius in combat areas. The first available gem can be a Milk Gem, named for its color, and it can have a chance to make nearby enemies sluggish or fall asleep. Not a 100% chance, but as long as the enemy is within the gem's field it will keep rolling for the effect every 5-10 seconds or so. The effect chance would be low for the first gem. Later gems could have different effects, like confusion, paralysis, a high chance of sleep, or even slow health/mana drain.
The fields won't affect the player because the center of the radius is immune because Reasons.
Due to gravity, heat, and magic, piles of Mole poop have condensed into usually brown, horrifyingly stinky gems.
If summon gems are a thing, these will summon a swarm of carnivorous flies.
The AOE has a chance to randomly stun enemies for a few seconds, if AOE effects are a thing.
it shines magnificently, so the rarer colored ones are usually covered in glass and put on display (glass to prevent the smell), however, due to the smell and ease of production, it is the cheapest gem in existence.

My main chumhandle is intelligentInsanity. I'm usually on, feel free to pester me!
Fantrolls (in order of creation, the first is the top one):
Sigh, well I TRIED to finish today, but its not in the cards. Something's gone wrong with the save system, and I am unsure whether your files will be safe. Could somebody upload their save file and send me the link? the file is called GameSave.sav, and you can upload it to box.net if you make an account. I really cannot update until I have an old save file, so please consider uploading yours!
When you awaken, you head out. Its mine time!
Something tells you this is going to go very well.
Its a little bit dark in here. You can see some barrels, and a lot of smoke. You head further in.
There's so much going on, you can hardly decide where to start! YB: Check out that cool mushroom.
You go to grab it, and take one step too many. It explodes into a cloud of spores!
OH NO! You're Poisoned!
Suddenly, as if things weren't bad enough, a Fleece Bat swoops down and starts sucking your blood! This is it! This is the end! You smack the bat off of you and dash further into the mine.
As you catch your breath, you make a startling realization: You are no longer poisoned. It looks like the Fleece Bat sucked the Poison right out of you!
What will you do now?
(Thanks for bearing with me, now enjoy a nice plethora of content! There's still a lot to do before the next update, but feel free to suggest whatever! Also, a special thanks to Askia! Things started to go south with the saving system for a bit, and having an old save file helped me immensely!)
> Check status. If you're still quite healthy, go onwards and look for anything precious. In any other case, go back and heal up.

[Second gif looks like there's an endless line of sliding sprites going into a tunnel. It's silly.]
feel free to use that gif as a euphemism for sex from now on. in fact, go ahead and pretend its a euphemism for sex NOW. See what that does to the story.
The game looks good so far Somfun. Are the stone you get from gems and items gotten from barrels and crates randomized? I think I got lucky and got an amethyst in the first playthrough.
Oh yeah, there's a weird glitch when you use a pickaxe on the boulder nearest the stairs. When I was going to get the ore inside, the boulder pop-up screen appeared and the boulder reappeared making the adventurer stuck in the boulder... I had to quit the game because of the glitch.

Its randomized. The Amethyst has a 1% chance of showing up in standard boulders, however in testing its usually about 5%. Either way, you're pretty lucky! I'm probably gonna make it more rare though. Also, I'll get rid of that boulder.
Oh yeah, can I also suggest something like an in-game help manual? Or something so that first-time players know how to do things? It took me quite a while before learning how to use my equipped crowbar. Then again, I might just not know that shift is the usual attack key for most PC RPG games :/

I wanna join the spoiler party too. :[ Ah, I think I crashed it.
Dammit. I only have what I've already suggested. You remember them right? Oh yeah, and what are you picturing as the flower sprite?

Yeah, at some point I'm going to sit down and add like, a little Omnitome Icon that will appear periodically to give you instruction. I have to put a lot of thought into how to code it to react accurately to the situation.
And don't worry, the flowers are forthcoming. We will see flowers before we are finished with the mine. And I dunno, I kind of just imagined like sunflowers, unless you have a different idea?
Man we really need to refrigerate all these posts
ha ha get it
because they're all getting spoiled
and
if you refrigerate something
it doesn't spoil as quickly
heh heh
heeeeehhhhhhhhhhhh
sob
ANYWAY
Two things!
1) When you press 'escape' the entire game instantly closes. An 'are you sure?' dialogue might be nice :B
2) I'm not entirely sure what buttons to press when it asks me "YES" or "NO". I tried 'n' and 'y' but that didn't seem to work. There's probably instructions somewhere and I'm just stupid.
But I really liked pressing 's' to shove and such. Makes it really easy for a wide range of commands and you end up using the whole keyboard and it makes you kinda think about doing something rather than just like pressing the use key or whatnot so that's really good but the Yes or No options are confusing and now I'm rambling in a circular fashion and I can't stop aaa
Hrm... somfun, you think it might be better if we have a separate discussion thread for the Omnitome Project? So that people can just discuss stuff about glitches and complaints over there, and ideas for stuff and suggestions over here? So, you've got the main adventure, and the glitches and complaints thread?

Yeah, I think I would like to do that. Is there a precedent for that? Has anyone else done it, and if so, how did they?
Also, [space] will always choose the first option when given buttons. "No" is the only option in the game that doesn't allow for a shortcut, but when I revamp the message-box system it'll be fixed.
