I arrived at the courthouse this morning; I was chosen for jury duty for a string of cases; the accused were a number of suspected members of some shady mafia. They started the first court session at noon. Despite the startling amount of evidence that was present, the defense still held up well. I still wouldn't have been sure he was guilty if it weren't for the events that directly followed the jury's announcement. On a whim, I voted "guilty," simply because of the buildup of evidence against the man. My peers, after a substantial amount of discussion, ultimately agreed. It was dark out by the time Ronald, another one of the jury members, approached the stand to present our verdict. As he pronounced the word "guilty" a gunshot rang out and the lights went dark. Ronald fell dead instantly, thankfully, a merciful quick death. Panic ensued as the audience fled in all directions. They tried leaving the courthouse, but it was apparently for not. I heard multiple exclamations about the door not opening. I just tried to stand aside, and try not to die. This proved but one thing. It was going to be a long court session.
Jury Hunt
Welcome to Jury Hunt, a open setup game for 25 players. This is a pretty unique setup developed over the last month with assistance from x1372, ChocolatePi, and Sotek (aka Laset). Given that this game is both an open setup game and a more unique one, it is especially important that you read over the rules.
Rules and Open Setup
Credit to base rules goes to beruru.
1. Massclaims are not advised, and I have taken precautions against them. They will not help, and they will be kind of unfun, so don't do it.
2. Days will be up to 120 hours (5 days) long. Nights will be NO MORE than 48 hours - if all actions are in, day will start early (and will still end on the appropriate day/time.) Given that this setup isn't very rolecentric, this is especially true of nights. I will not be making any exceptions for people being late.
3. When voting, remember to bold or color (preferably bold, but you can color) or bold and color your votes! If you choose to use an obnoxious color, it must be in Comic Sans and in really large type.
4. ALL COMMUNICATION WILL BE DONE THROUGH QUICKTOPICS. There will be no reason to PM me about anything.
5. IF YOU EDIT OR DELETE POSTS YOU WILL FACE THE CANNON. I will personally shoot you out into a cliff.
5.5. DON'T SHARE QUICKTOPICS. EVEN IF YOU ARE COALIGNED AND W/E. Cannon. Cliff. Etc, etc.
5.5.5. DON'T TALK TO PEOPLE OUTSIDE OF THE GAME EITHER. Yeah, I know, I know. Shush.
6. No ciphers. They're a distraction that only tests people's ability to crack ciphers. No exceptions.
7. After you die you can make one post that cannot contain any information about the game.
8. You may not post in the thread at night.
9. This game won't have any bastardry; what you see in the open setup is what will happen.
10. Every player has to make at least one post per day. If they will not be able to make a post on that day, I will inform the players in the day start post/as soon as applicable.
11. Play to your win condition, always. Doesn't mean you shouldn't have fun or make it unfun for others.
12. Karkat Rule: No faking day-activations of anything, on pain of modkill. There may or may not be day powers!
13. Karkat Rule 2: If a day-activation of something day-ending is claimed, ASSUME THE DAY IS ENDED until you hear otherwise. If an extension is required as a result, I will grant one.
14. Don't copy/paste from QTs, thank you.
15. If you are a role that cannot vote, you may not attempt to vote, on threat of modkill.
16. Don't break the game.
Anything else that you have concerns with, feel free to ask. Do so in your quicktopic unless it is urgent.
Now, setup specifics.
Firstly, some things about the core gameplay you should know:
No Lynch is not a thing. While you may abstain from voting, there will always be a lynch. Because of this, lynches are pluralities (essentially, person with greatest number of votes is lynched, regardless of majority). If there is a tie for who is lynched, the Judge role will decide of the tied individuals which will be lynched, via quicktopic. If Judge is dead, town is given a 24-hour extension to decide between the tied lynch candidates. If still no consensus is reached, the first candidate to initally reach their lynch total is lynched.
Those who can vote are only known to be able to vote when they actually vote. Otherwise, their identities and whether they can vote or not are unknown.
In the weird scenario that nobody votes, one player who is able to vote will be randomly selected, and they will randomly vote another member of the living players that is not themselves.
Deadline votes aren't a thing. If you try to use one, I'll accept it as a regular vote.
A mafia kill is present, however it works a little differently than it usually does. While at least one of the mafia members without a vote live, the mafia members with a vote have no control over it. However, when all non-voting mafia members are dead, the voting mafia members gain access to it.
Non-voting mafia have a scumchat, whereas voting mafia do not.
If somehow all players who can vote die, players who previously did not have a vote gain one.
Now, on to the roles.
the Jurors x 12
The Jurors all oppose the Mafia, and their ability is simple: They can vote in lynches. However, should they choose, if they do not vote, the fact that they can vote and are a juror is hidden.
the Corrupt Jurors x 4
The Corrupt Jurors are members of the Mafia, but have the same ability as normal Jurors. They have a lynch vote. The same ability to hide the fact that they can vote is present. They, however, are unknown to non-voting mafia, and cannot communicate with any of their scummates. If all 4 of the non-voting mafia members die, they will gain the opportunity to vote for who is killed by the mafia.
the Judge x 1
The Judge opposes the Mafia. The judge learns the role of whoever is lynched. They also settle ties in lynches. They do not have a lynch vote.
the Plantiff x 1
The Plantiff opposes the Mafia. Each night, they can select a known voter, and that voter will have an extra vote, which is added on to whoever the voted to lynch at the end of the day. If they die, the defendant loses their ability. They do not have a lynch vote.
An example of the Plantiff's effect would be this:
Player A is the Plantiff, who selects Player B.
Player B votes Player C. In votals, this is shown as one vote. At the end of the day, final vote calculations will count Player B's vote as two.
the Investigator x 1
The Investigator opposes the Mafia. Each night, they can select a player, and they will learn if they are guilty and a member of the mafia, or not. They do not have a lynch vote.
the Guard x 1
The Guard opposes the Mafia. While you live, any and all jurors who have voted (and as such, revealed themselves to be jurors) cannot be selected in the mafia kill. The Mafia learn when you have died. They do not have a lynch vote.
the Witness x 1
The Witness opposes the Mafia. While at least one of the non-voting mafia live, they learn who performed the mafia kill. They do not have a lynch vote.
the Defendant x 1
The Defendant is a member of the mafia. If they die, the Plantiff will lose their ability. Each night, you can give an extra vote to a juror of your choice for the following day (see the example for the Plantiff). Alternatively, they may choose someone who has not voted, and if they are a juror, force them to vote. They do not have a lynch vote.
the Extortionist x 1
The Extortionist is a member of the mafia. They function as a roleblocker. Each night, they can prevent another player from using their ability for the night, if they have one. They do not have a lynch vote.
the Framer x 1
The Framer is a member of the mafia. Each night, if the investigator chooses the Framer's target, they read the opposite result. The Framer will learn if the cop read their target. In addition, the Witness will read the Framer's target as their result as opposed to who performed the mafia kill. They do not have a lynch vote.
the Researcher x 1
The Researcher is a member of the mafia. Each night, they can check a player of their choice to see if they are a Corrupt Juror. They do not have a lynch vote.
This is a very interesting concept, but there's already so many active mafias at this point.
I'd say to start after Bloody Red Mafia, TV SHOW Mafia, and/or Sotek's Flavafia ends.
don't forget nightside 2
but yeah too many mafias/hunts at the moment, not inning with this post.
might still be back later but my schedule's looking somewhat more busy over the coming weeks so staying active in my current mafias is already going to be iffy sorry Q
BTW, you need to mention in your rules which members of the mafia have private communication with each other. I feel that's a bit unclear. I'm guessing the mafia that do not have votes have the mafia kill and can communicate privately. Having all the mafia able to talk makes the Researcher a silly role and the Defendant somewhat more powerful than if he didn't know which jurors are which. Perhaps the corrupt jurors can communicate, a la JWs?

Re: Jury Hunt (not starting until other games finish) ~ 3/25 players
This asymmetric mafia knowledge thing seems absolutely ridiculous. Or awesome. I can't decide which. Maybe both.
NOTICE: Please please please do not call me Mathy or Mathie. I dunno, they just feel sort of condescending. You can call me by an assortment of other things, however.
