It's likely you're dealing with a .jpg which tends to mess up precise lines. Fortunately, there's a way to get around this for this particular situation (unless the quality is too terrible):
When you have the fuzzy select tool selected, there should be an area like this on the bottom of the toolbox:
Increase the threshold value (which I drew an arrow to) and try again (undo your initial deletion first and it's a good idea to uncheck "Antialiasing" too). Just be careful not to set it too high or you'll select parts of the image you want to keep too.
Alternatively, use the eraser tool to get rid of those white spots (though it's probably best you check the "Hard Edge" checkbox, which shows up in that same area of the in the toolbox when the eraser is selected first).
And for future reference, avoid .jpgs if at all possible when precision is a concern.
Ah, Mister Bond. Thank you for joining us. Please sit down. We may be able to negotiate some sort of agreement. If not then, well, you might end up all washed out.

I found some amazing things on Tumblr.

Of course as soon as I resolve a problem, another one pops up. So, I'm trying to go to Step Two of Scratchifying Sollux, and it won't let me use the Bucket Tool on him, it has the circle with a slash through it symbol when I put the bucket icon over him. :<
Hello Manip thread! I come to you with a dilemma. I'm working on a fanventure and I've been using Flash to make some animated pages. However, whenever I export my GIFs, they come out looking like this:
Is there anyway to export animated GIFs from Flash without this happening? Or is there some other image format I can export in that would do the job??
... and you know how I said I was done with these? I guess I lied. Gosh making sprites is fun.
And for this one, as has been semi-popularly theorized, JAKESPRITE!
Or, for the first step towards the-fever-prince's really interesting and excellent theories, have a slightly... less innocuous Jakesprite:

If you're asking about the grainy colors, it's because GIFs have to be indexed, which limits the amount of usable colors. As far as I'm aware there's no way around this other than to manually tone down the amount of different colors? Someone else probably knows better than I, though.
Export as a sequence of PNG images (there's an option to do that under Export as Movie or whatever it's called), then use GIMP to make them into a GIF.
Alternatively, use animated PNGS instead of GIFS. The only "downside" is that Internet Failsplorer doesn't understand them (big suprise), but it eventually will. Works in Firefox and Chromium perfectly fine though.
EDIT:
yes
no (at least not currently)

HUSSIESPRITE: I knew this was a terrible idea.
The colors somehow got messed up when exporting, which is weird because that NEVER happens with pngs, at least for me. :U
