Most guilds you meet now are casual chatty guilds that often also do raiding sometimes. The reason is the guild leveling and skill system. You get so many great bonuses for being in a high level guild so that guilds tend to hunt down guildless people and invite them without asking you a single question. All you have to do is wait for an invite to a guild above lv 20 while you quest around the world. Only the crazy hardcore raid guilds still require for you to send an application first.

I joined my guild around the end of ICC
Technically I had to do an application but the guild I was leaving was so far ahead of theirs that they said "Are you sure you aren't applying to the wrong place?"
    I never regretted it

I am the only person left from the team we had when I joined, even our current guild master joined the guild after I did, but they're still a great bunch of people

Once MoP happens, do you think it would be worth it to start playing? I've never been much for the grindy type of MMO, but you guys are making it seem like it would be fun.

    I'd say yes but
7 year player I'm going to be a little bit biased

It's free up until level 20, I'd wait for MoP to come out and then give that a go, although a lot of fun stuff like pet battles isn't going to be accessible.

It's just a pity you missed the sales. They had the entire pack of original, TBC, WotLK and Cataclysm together bundled in one for $30 just some weeks ago. I think it's back to $20 for Original + TBC + 1 month + guidebooks, another $20 for WotLK and then $40 for Cataclysm.

But I might be wrong, I haven't checked. The prices are going to drop once Mists of Pandaria is out though. At least for Cata. And might have some new offers again.

Meh, I don't have money anyway, so I couldn't have bought it. :v

But yeah I was talking about trying it up to level 20 and then seeing how much I liked it. What I remember from playing it at my cousin's house is that I love the PvP, but that I need to balance it out with PvE to get good gear because for some reason PvP gives experience.

Re: [Game Chat] VI: Online Interactions Not Rated By The ESRB

You can get gear from doing only PvP, but the problem is that while you get honour points and there are gear vendors that will sell you items for low levels, you don't get enough to make a full item set.
Blizzard wanted it to be possible to level up doing 100% PvP and it technically is but it's not really feasible without a higher level character feeding you items because there's no particularly good way to have your clothes keep up with your level if you only do battlegrounds.

Personally, I hate PVP, and feel like they have repeatedly hamstringed the main game's mechanics in trying to balance PvP. I really wish they used entirely different systems than PvE instead of trying to make everything work for everyone fairly.

Re: [Game Chat] VI: Online Interactions Not Rated By The ESRB

I'm really not a PvP person either and it pains me that 1/3 of my main class's specialisations has been repeatedly hobbled in PvE just because it is so good at fighting other players, but they seem to have got a handle on that particular issue in MoP (in fact Frost Mage looks like the strongest of the three specs at the moment in terms of PvE damage, though obviously there's another 2 months of changes to go).

If you receive a Scroll of Resurrection you get a free upgrade to Cataclysm, also a instant level 80 character.

Shouldn't this discussion be in the World of Warcraft thread?

I bet it was pats on the back all round when the marketing department came up with that one.
    Haha.

    That's too good.

Whatever will we do with you, Capcom?

"Hey I upgraded my vid card so I guess I can run Jamestown now, too."

    Fuckin'

    Dude?

I played for like five minutes and this is the best shmup I've played in quite some time. Everything EXPLODES loudly and it looks wonderful. It reminds me a lot of Mars Matrix. You know. That other shmup on Mars with the wide aspect ratio where you have the two different regular shots and where you collect gold things from destroyed enemy ships that you combo chain and fill up a bar to use a special that absorbs bullets and a shop with unlockable goodies.

    I'm sure it's just a coincidence.

Ok the developers actually cite Progear as the main influence and it is more like that but still.

And you get a results screen that tells you how big your gaming penis is

    Jamestown is awesome

If you like shmups go buy it right now

Also it’s a Weird History Thing. Which is something I don’t see outside of Asia often enough.

If you are concerned about the difficulty because you haven’t played bullet hell before, well, it’s a good one to cut your teeth on.

non sequitur time—NVIDIA: we put an ad in your game™

thanks wild subconscious, now I’ll never not hear that when starting things up

If you haven't played a danmaku game

    y-

    don't

    no

I will likely not be playing this past the "difficult" setting.

I love the Gunner ship. I can't wait to see the other two.

What with installing two video cards in a week I notice that there are ads for game all over the installation screens. Which is annoying and inappropriate. I guess they know their target audience. But NVIDIA are still less annoying than AMD.

The only thing I don't like about Jamestown is the music. Not only is it not very shmuppropriate, I find it boring. This is the soundtrack in my head to every shmup, anyway:

    Wheeeeeeeeeeee

I'll agree with you there Superfrequency, the soundtrack is pretty subpar. In my opinion, this is easily the best track, and even, it's mostly just for 2:05 onwards.

Edit: I stand by what I said, even after realising this is the music from the stage you posted.

No wonder you run Borderlands so well, you're using the card that sponsored the game :V Which is the only game I can think of that has the video card name featured so prominently.

In what way? On that note 2K are terrible for not optimizing Borderlands for ATI play. I have to turn off some settings on the card to get it to run. Sooo irritating.

    On a different note...

Let's be honest, Gearbox didn't really optimize the game at all.

I do love how it has a lot of tweaks you can do in the ini files.

Which is only because of the engine itself.

You don't have to do that with ATI cards, you just won't be able to take full advantage of what the card offers. Same with Nvidia although I forget what their driver software is called.

Yeah. Borderlands may be fun but it is unpolished as all hell at times.

The thing is, the NVIDIA Control Panel isn’t a separate install. If you install the latest drivers for Windows direct from their site, you get the Control Panel, unless you’re doing something truly odd, or something is broken (it’s not even an option when you install). Of course, the situation may be different with OEM drivers but those are icky anyway.

As for the name, they were calling it ForceWare for a while, but it seems they’ve swept that one under the rug. Nowadays it’s GeForce [version] Driver or NVIDIA Graphics Driver version [version].

So Kingdom Hearts 3D is out and it's fun

The only thing I don't really like or understand is the Drop system, mostly because it just seems like a way to force me to swap between Sora and Riku at some point.

Can't they just let me play them completely seperate from each other? or keep the character swapping and just remove the Drop Gauge.

And also, Dream Eater Links. Soras are boring (oh boy im riding the meow wow) while Riku's are really cool. He gets to use command styles more or less, based on the Dream Eaters he's linking with.
    ugh.
