Okay, so we've got some basics sorted out. We're going to start fleshing out a script soon, so if anyone would like to be involved in WRITING/EDITING/STORYBOARDING, this is where you're going to come in. Email homestuckanime@gmail.com for details about that!

My voice is probably too low to play any of the kids or trolls, but if you need someone to play, say, one of the midnight crew, or to sing at any point, I'm game. That being said, my acting experience is minimal, but I'd still give it a shot.

Also, to address the concern of what part of the comic to focues on: Why not do it in the style of a "recap episode?" Just recount some of the biggest events of the comic so far, or maybe of the "last season," to give it more believability (also known as confusion.)

We actually worked out which part of the comic we're doing. I just updated the OP with that information. But thank you for the suggestion!

If you still want to try out for a part, that would be great. Who knows? Maybe we'll like your vocal choices. I'll have audition info up hopefully by the end of tomorrow.

Re: Homestuck is my Favorite Anime: The Project

If I may, I'd like to offer some advice. I've seen a lot of projects on this board fail because of poor management and overly high ambitions. While I don't necessarily think this project will suffer from the latter, I'd like to do what I can to make sure it doesn't suffer from the former. As co-admin of one of the most ambitious fan projects on these forums, I feel like I have experience in these matters.

I think the most important thing at this juncture is to focus on one aspect of this project at a time. First, you need to determine what part of the story you wish to cover, and to create a script. Start by adding writers to the team and no one else. Then, once you've got a script, get some storyboard artists. Then once you know exactly what lines you'll need recorded it will be time to hold auditions for voice actors. I see a lot of people on this thread who are already expressing interest in auditioning (I'm interested myself), but I can't stress enough how bad an idea it is to focus on voice actors at this stage in your project. Managing auditions takes a lot of time and effort and is going to gum up the works and interfere with you from handling the facets of the project that need to come first.

I'm sorry if I come across as negative, but I'm tired of seeing promising projects fail due to mistakes like these. You guys seem to have some good heads on your shoulders though. I have confidence that you'll make this work. If you'll have me, I'd be willing to help you out with production management and/or writing, but if you already have enough people, that's fine too.

    Best of luck guys. Seriously.

Re: Homestuck is my Favorite Anime: The Project

No worries Nicky. I myself have quite a bit of experience with management. I plan on taking it slowly, to make sure that we don't fall flat. A project as large as this one takes time, and dedication. I've actually been spending the last 3 hours watching documentaries on the animation process and taking notes on what need to be done when, encouraging the other people involved in this project to do so as well. I plan on making a schedule based on that information so that we don't go too fast or too slow. I also plan to take into account the skill levels of each person working on this project, so that I can gauge what type of things to assign them to.

Despite all of my precautions, it is still going to take a lot of work to keep this project wrangled together, and every little bit helps. Your advice is greatly appreciated.

I'd like to join as a writer if possible. sorry, didn't see the e-mail adress I'd really like to see this thing work, both as a Homestuck fan and an Anime fan.

Also, if you need a medium for collaborating on scripts and such Etherpad and Moonedit are suitable mediums for doing so. I'd recommend Moonedit since it has password protecting so not everyone can get in.

And for the sake of making the thread look clean, please delete the double posts and edit any added info in them to the post before them. Nope I'm not backseat modding nope what.

It's so refreshing to see that you guys know what you're doing. I'll be keeping an eye on this project, and the second you open auditions for voice actors I'll throw my hat into the ring. Godspeed.

I could help join if you wanted. I could probably voice either John or Dave, maybe even Karkat (If they're within those pages).

As soon as auditions are up, I urge you to send in a submission. Keep checking the OP for more information, and I'll probably make a post about it once everything is up.

So this is my first thread, so I was curious and confused... can I personally do delete double posts and such? Or should I just contact people who accidentally double post and all that and tell them to edit and delete?

I much prefer Google Docs to the *pad sites, myself, especially since the new Google Drive release, but it'd work well with those too I guess.

I don't think that Sollux appears in the section of the comic we're working with, but if you want to audition for anyone else, please feel free to. Audition information will be up shortly, though we're not opening auditions quite yet.

We have been using Google Docs for the whooping ONE thing that we've got done so far. (Aka, the audition monologues for voice actors.) I've never used the *pad sites before, so we'll just have to see how this goes.

I would like to join in as well. I just wanted to make a post so I can follow the thread.
I could probably be an artist/writer and might be able to voice act a small part.
I'll email the gmail right now.

Also, wouldn't the into be something similar to the music that played when the characters entered sburb?
Oh look, I have a Deviantart and a tumblr. I occasionally art and the chumhandle I use most is absolutlyAngelic. Be warned for random words in place of swears.

You mean Sburban Jungle? Sburban Jungle with annoying Japanese vocals would be awesome.

    Yes, I think that's what I meant.
Also, if we want to have the intro in japanese, should the whole thing be in Japanese? I mean, it is an anime. Or are we making a 'fandub?'

Well even dubbed animes have the japanese intros, nowadays at least. I think. I am not a huge animes person so I am not sure.

How about it's made to look like a dub, where the lips are synced to something resembling Japanese, with the actual dialogue in English? And yeah, even dubs typically have Japanese intros.

Yes, but they are often terrible.

I think a Japanese intro would work better. Opinions opinions opinions.

I'll help with writing if I'm wanted. To yahoo to email that address!

I think you should try to work as many of these cliches into the opening as possible.
Sky upward pan, Birds, running, random turning around toward the viewer, standing in dramatic wind etc.

If you need someone, I might be able to pull of a decent Vriska or Kanaya voice.

Hahaha, yes very good idea. We'll use that video for inspiration once we start storyboarding and animating the intro.

I'm gonna hit all of these airborne creatures with one small piece of compact, hard minerals: Yes we're doing the "English dub" of it, and we don't know if the intro will have lyrics yet. We'll come to that bridge when we burn it. If it does have lyrics and they're in Japanese, we're gonna need a good translator.

Auditions have not opened yet. Please check the OP for details. And, yes, this will be a rather large project.

    ...
Bold so that everyone gets the picture, since we've had so many posts like this:
We are not just handing out parts to whomever comes and posts on the board. There will be auditions, there will be criteria that must be met with those auditions. This isn't a "first come first serve" thing, because we want the voices to be of a nice quality.

Sorry for double posting, but I feel this is important enough to merit its own post.

For our lovely posters who want to be writers:
We are opening up the writing auditions segment. I will update the OP to give you the criteria and email everyone who emailed us expressing interest.

I'm very excited to see your submissions!
