The former is still a little unbelievable, the latter is not something any good GM would do in their game unless it was part of their role
And it would be an exceptionally odd role

So no, a claim that did not include you somehow knowing that your kill was not the successful one would have put you in a better position, though one that still required you to explain why you did not counterclaim

In an overwhelming majority of games, the only confirmation you ever get of kill success or failure is that player's announced death at daystart
Anything else gives you powerful information that you needn't have

The only exception is that people are usually told that they are roleblocked

The Bird Vig (Deceptive) and myself both killed Tea on the same night. I honestly don't know which of us got the kill, though I did get credit for the correct guess.

One-shot Vig is a 'meh' claim, and will never get you off the hook completely. Tracker was a possibility, perhaps - there had been some vanilla claims, mixed with dead people, and stuff that you could have crafted something believable. Or possibly claiming to be Blue, as vanilla.

The cop was already insane, having one Miller was already going to be pretty unexpected considering that

You needed two more mislynches. A second miller claim was not going to let you live past two mislynches.

A well crafted tracker claim was your best chance I think? It'd have kept you from being roleblocked, and you could have confirmed that one of the vanilla claims didn't perform the night kill, and then claim that someone else 'did' visit someone, despite claiming nilla, etc, to get the mislynches you needed.

Odds still weren't in your favor, but if you'd been active and then pulled that off, it was your most believable shot.

I'd just said I was going to lynch you and Tea, and instead redirected the lynch onto a townfirm. There was zero chance I was town, why would you waste a kill on me, when (from your perspective) I was going to get lynched the next day?

If someone lies to town in order to force a mislynch and you aren't town, odds are that you should leave them alone because they are either a third party or stupid and about to be a second mislynch
So yeah, shooting Eido was a really weird move :V

yeah but once he claimed to have received the cop-bot that pika said he sent to Jacq I would've strung him up pretty much instantly since his slot was obviously bussed by aS with Jacq, and you don't bus strong town with other town you bus them with your weak/suspicious scummates so that prospective cops/docs/vigs get tripped up.
