The Homestuck GMod Playset

All of the weapons are done now, so the only thing that's really left is to make icons for everything. I think I'm going to make a few more outfits and accessories before releasing too, though. It won't take long.

Obviously, the dice couldn't be like they were in the comic, but are they going to be sort of like fancy grenades or something?
Like maybe sometimes they have fire and sometimes they have shrapnel or whatever?

I finished working on them today. I ended up making it so each die has a chance to do one of eight random things, but I'm not going to say what they are because it's more fun that way :L

This might've already been asked but can you spawn the kids and trolls as NPCs? or Just ragdolls, and if you can do they have any sort of predefined behavior? Like would Eridan attack Sollux? Or would the Kids be hostile to Combine forces? Or do they just stand around.

Yes! They work as friendly companions and will follow you around and attack enemies. All of them behave in the same way, though.

I believe the answer is no, if I remember. Really, it wouldn't make sense, because I'm fairly certain the characters are the models with the textures put on them.

More importantly though, having to add a parts editor would take forever, probably not include most things on most fanchars unless a fancharacter part editor EDITOR was added too, not work well in multiplayer, and generally just be an annoyance to everyone for absolutely no reason.

But yeah this continues to be really great and it's almost out and I'm gettin' all wriggly with excitement over it.

That's something that I would have loved to do from the start but I'm not really sure how it could be done. I've tried to make the materials for the outfits and characters simple to understand so that people can change them if they like and there are also lots of clothes and accessories to customise your look with.

For the past few days I've been working on icons for everything and it ended up taking lot longer than I thought it would :S Once that was done, I made a whole bunch of new outfits and accessories, fixed some problems and I think that everything is done now. I'm going to go over everything carefully tomorrow to check for bugs but I'm done making things for now.

My next post should have a download link in it

Quick question about the playermodels though, since I haven't actually played around with Gmod addons yet: if I'm on a (non-Gmodstuck) server using one of the playermodels, and the other players don't have them, will they see me as the default scientist guy, a giant flashing ERROR sign, or would the server automatically pick up on my local content and sendificate it to them so they would see me as Dave throwing a Gamzee ragdoll around without having the entire playset preinstalled?

Also on the topic of Sourcestuck in general: You've seen SburbFortress and the Portal 2 Sendificator map, right?

You'll just show up as the scientist guy, unfortunately.
But if you're playing with other people that have the same mod as you, you'll show up as whatever it was you were intending to be.

That's okay. I'm used to being the only one on TF2 PropHunt who sees Terezi as the Pyro(pe) and hearing Announcer Karkat. At least Gmod is smart enough to default to Generic Scientist instead of Big Ugly ERROR, is what I was worried about. I get enough ERRORs on Trouble in Terrorist Town maps that apparently require L4D2 assets >_>

I've been fixing bugs and double checking things all day. I'm pretty sure that everything is ready to go, but I tend to get pretty crazy about nitpicks and stuff before pushing something out the door =/

Most of it has been fun but I'm pretty tired of working on it now, to be honest. The character models and outfits were the most fun and the code stuff was the hardest/least, because I had to pretty much learn everything as I went along.

Thank you for offering, but I think everything is done for now. Gmod isn't expensive at all, so it probably wouldn't hurt to buy it if you're interested :L

The server will need to have the playset installed, unfortunately =(

It shouldn't be a problem. I think the most fun you can have with the playset is in a small group with friends.

As a modder myself know there will always be bugs on release. It's just what happens. Releasing and patching is way better than paranoidly nitpicking, because you are going to have problems either way but just releasing is way less stressful, and you'll find more bugs.

Simply create a Steam account on the Steam service, download the Steam program and purchase Garry's Mod from their store. It's very reasonably priced.

Sorry to hear that, but linking to a pirated version of Garry's Mod is probably against this forums User Agreement/Terms of Service, due to the whole illegality of it.

I think it's up to Fawn as to where they distribute it. No idea about the whole SFM deal, I'd imagine it would just be some drag and dropping, but I've never used it so I know nothing. Probably best to search up how one would add models to SFM.
