What about something like Gamzee, Kurloz, or Lrd English eating your sigcorns? I'm not going to attempt it; just throwing out ideas for options. Maybe all three of them, scratching between each other, eating the sigcorns?

I'm grabbing at straws here. I don't really get into Halloweenification often, and my idea for the ideal sig is pure text with optional formatting. Kind of like what Kíeros has, for instance, or kaoticAntagonist.

Okay, so there's been a lot of signature discussion going on recently, and I see the need for a post that outlines a bunch of the common terms used for signatures, some of the techniques people use to make banners/decks, and some templates.

Terms:

Signature: Appears below every post you make,
Banner: Image within the signature, usually gets linked to a thread or external site. Distinguished from a deck in that it is usually (but not always) the only image in the visible portion of the signature.
Deck: Collection of images fused together to look like one cohesive image, but allows for different sections to be linked to different places, and for some parts to be unlinked.

General Guidelines:

• The signature area is limited to a maximum of 80px in height, or four lines of text. This is an absolute guideline. Signatures that are larger than this will not display.
• There are two major divisions of signatures, those that include spoiler boxes, and those that do not.
• Adding spoilers to your signatures allows you to contain more content in the signature than is allowed within the four lines.
• Spoiler boxes are always 20px high, regardless of content. Therefore, if you want to include a spoiler in your signature, the portion of the signature outside the spoiler must be no larger than 60px in height.
• Signatures that utilize the entire 80px height of the allowable area occasionally glitch, and do not display properly on all computers. In order to prevent this, a good guideline for maximum height in a signature is 78px. This translates into a banner/deck 78px high without a spoiler, or 58px high with a spoiler.
• A good guideline (but by no means an absolute limit) on signature width: try to keep it below 640px in total, even if split into multiple images. This width allows the banner to be visible on a full screen window at 1024*768 resolution, or a half screen window at 1920*whatever resolution, the smallest common sizes for browser windows. Feel free to make the signature wider, but be aware that it may not show up in all cases.
• A note on file formats: .png is generally accepted as the 'best' format, using lossless compression. and resulting in high-quality web images. .gif is good for animated images, but is color-limited, so it should not be used for static images. .jpg (.jpeg, various other extensions) is a lossy compression format, commonly used, but can result in quality loss. Generally shouldn't be used, as most common image editors can save into .png format. A high-quality .jpg may even result in a larger file than a similar quality .png.

Useful tip: If you put the content of your sig (or any post for that matter) into a table, then if the content goes beyond the width of the page, it will automatically create a scroll bar. This is pretty useful for if you want to use wide pictures without losing resolution.

The problem is that the scroll bar adds a lot of pixel height to your sig, so you'll probably need to put that content in a spoiler. The upside to that is that if it's in a spoiler, the height doesn't matter any more!

The gray portions of these templates are designed to be used with the paint bucket tool in your favourite image editor and filled with whatever colour you like. The internal white section is the 'canvas,' which may be used for animations or still images.
Note that these templates are exactly 60px and 80px tall, and you may have some issues with them (see general guidelines).

If anyone can think of anything that ought to be added, just drop a message, and I'll do so. I'm planning to get some more templates up in the near future, and can do some basic tutorials in either photoshop or GIMP, if anyone cares for them.

i actually like the 3rd one better because the middle one doesn't pause long enough for me to recognise what it was. i didn't even catch it was scratch / english, as well, until you mentioned it.

I watched a grand total of 1 episode of Baccano! and I think it's at least moderately terrifying.

Then again, I may just be used to kA's avvis at least being somewhere near the terrifying department.
