I wouldn't expect John to completely freak out and sob and BSOD, but...I expect him to actually care, guys. Regardless of romantic prospects, John isn't the type of person to learn someone he liked is dead and be "Oh, jeeze, that sucks."

Just went back and found it (that scene) - he looks sad and kind of unbelieving, and his eyes start going wide...and then the fight begins. We don't really get to see a reaction because he and Rose were in the middle of a life and death situation.

Yeah, he just kinda stares dumbstruck for a few moments before preparing to fight Bec Noir. The big problem is the lack of any sort of lasting impact though.

There's not real consequence to John's "dead family/friend" event.

Dave, Rose and Jade all had pretty serious breakdowns (for Homestuck's doing, at least) and Rose and Dave went on to suicide pretty hardcore while Jade recklessly prototyped her dead dreamself.
John looked sad for a bit, wanted to fight a dude and then died and nothing of consequence happened.

Shit's pretty disappointing, but freaking out over Vriska now would just make his reaction over his father's death look even weirder.

He can totally be somewhat solemn over Vriska's death, though.
That still works.

Well, he's been spending a lot of time trying to distract himself.

He's just been playing games and watching movies for these 2 years, as far as we can tell. And he gets to live with his Nanna too, which might kinda help a bit.

He seems like he's running away from his issues for right now, and any freakout over a dead Vriska would be more "Straw that broke the camel's back" then "VRISKA IS SO IMPORTANT GUYS". I'd think.

I think John's (negative) reactions have always been pretty diminished, because he's a bit of an escapist (right word?)
He never really faces the reality of the situation like the others. Hell, when he finds out his Dad is NORMAL he has a breakdown. He loves the insanity, and the small part of his brain that wants to face reality is overwhelmed by the part that wants to have fun and crack jokes.

This latest update is the game changer though. The cynical part of John's brain has finally matured enough to cut through John's ruthless love of randomness.
That's it boys and girls (and whatever else... I've seen those candy corns...) John is Lord English. He snaps and decides to get rid of sburb because it causes too much randomness.

Mystery solved guys. Vriska's gonna kill LE, and it's gonna be John, and it's gonna be real fucking emotional.

Well, Vriska's got an active plotline, and some decently big foreshadowing to her revival decently soon.

But I don't think she'll ever be as big as she was in Act 5. That was the best part of the comic so far for me.

I'm also having serious doubts that she will be revived.
If anything, I think she'll be able to hang around as a ghost in the dreambubbles like the pre-scratch trolls, but I don't really see much beyond that.

But she needs to be presented the chance to, to go in line with Scratch's "Whether you'll live to see it" comment or whatever.

Some say she HAS to be revived, then face death, but honestly just being given the chance and not getting it would fit too, I'd think.
