I think it's more that they no longer care as much about putting effort into a six year old free to play game which people will still play if they add nothing
It'd be great if everything was supported with big patches forever but that's not very realistic
Being angry about it is a little unjustified in my opinion but whatev
Robo Googly Eyes for Pyro
Robo Brain Slug for Pyro
Robo Pyrotechnic Tote for Pyro
Robo Gibus for... lol.
Robo Snapped Pupil for Demo
Robo Teddy for Engineer
Robo Grim Hatte for Medic
Robo Vintage Tyrolean for Medic
Robo Liquidator's Lid for Sniper
If anyone wants one, I'm trading for metal. Not too sure if I want to trade the googly eyes just yet. It would take a pretty good offer for me to part with that one.

Robot stuff sounds pretty cool!
I haven't gotten any items yet, is it random drop or do you have to buy them?

It's proud owner was none other than the eccentric, Eridan Ampora. He was a pompous sea dweller, but one with high standing. It had been many years after his "crazy genocide incident", but that only made the Grand Highblood pleased with the bloodshed. They were dark times, hidden behind the black sheen of Ampora's upper lip. It was said to be magical, to bestow upon it's proud wearer the fabled GERMAN ACCENT. In exchange for fine grooming, the mustache would balance out the basic flaws of the owner. Thus, Eridan learned how to function around others, and cherished the facial apparatus more and more until they entered a fine pale romance. They would watch out for each other, and protect each other. Many who came by the thousands sporting razors in both hands were immediately turned away by Ahab's Crosshairs. Any who dared try to upstage Eridan was given a face full of AUTHORITY STACHE. Such is the power of facial hair.

If you craft two weapons together you get scrap metal for it
Metal basically acts as currency in the trading scene. Just a standard thing that everyone accepts as valuable so we don't have to go all Red Paperclip to get those specific items we want.
Making keys Craftable. They'd still be buyable, but it would move TF2 away from the ridiculousness of "if you want anything from the new update you gotta pay" culture which I very much hate.
But it is a highly profitable culture that will continue as long as it makes Valve money.
Actually, is this the first update that has launched with zero free content? Even the other special crate updates had things that didn't come in the crates and were available to everyone.
and while at first I didn't care much for the robo stuff, I made the mistake of looking at what could be in them.... and there are a few of them I'd like. I'll probably wait a bit, since they don't delete the crates I could hold on them a bit, see how hard are the items to acquire, considering directly getting them from the shop if they get there, since I'd be buying keys anyway. One of them is actually the tyrolean, looks decent, though the normal one is as decent... "you are tearing me apart Mann co!"
