there's no way to put comic relief in a story about being handicapped, so they wont do it

No. Because I've been specifically avoiding it (and the other pre-released S3 song(s)) since they were announced some weeks ago.

Thanks, by the way, for linking to a wiki page on it rather than a youtube vid. Much easier to keep from watching it that way.

But Smile was leaked on accident, The Failure Song and that other one were shown to us on purpose.

Also I didn't wait for Smile, and TBH it didn't make a lick of difference, not only because of the difference in sound quality, but also because half of what makes that song so great is the visuals that go along with it. Seriously, try to play the last 20 seconds or so in your head without immediately seeing the giant chorus of ponies behind Pinkie Pie in your head when she goes, "All these happy friends of MINE."

And you totally know it didn't make a difference because you totally asked alternate-reality you how it was to NOT listen, right?

Context makes a great deal of difference. They say scent is the strongest memory trigger, but song works far better for me. To this day, there's a song from the Aida musical that I associate with a dungeon in Super Mario 64, and one from Chess that is connected to a specific page in a D&D book.

While it's not always the first relevant thing that forms the memory, I want the episode to have an opportunity to be what I remember - not just the visuals during the song itself, but the full context.

I know this because when I first listened to the song when it was leaked I was incredibly underwhelmed, and spent a good amount of time during the time between its leak and the airing of "A Friend in Deed" trying to figure out how exactly it would go about being in the show. Seeing how it WAS done was nowhere near what I was expecting and basically blew me away almost as much as I assume it did you.
