This came about from reading the comments in this post, but I've seen it everywhere. Someone makes the ponies into humans/cats/literally anything other than equine, and people go bug-eyed and state that they're only here for the pony and anyone making them into other species can go bugger themselves.

To be fair, that animation is pretty bleh.

I mean, compared to the 20-minute thing, this is Picasso, but I still don't like it.

But yeah, I have never heard of this phenomena before today. Maybe it's just EqDaily commenters.

I suspect most of the work in that animation was spent on faces, without much time given to the body movements... on the other hand, it's not like its based on a particularly active scene to begin with, so. I liked it, in either case.

Anyway, G4 and G1 are rather significantly less human than some of what came in-between.

I'm not even talking about that specific example, just the attitude in general. I can't count how many times I've seen someone turn the ponies into some other species and another person ruins everyone's fun by saying, "But that's not a pony! afdsjfkasj"

Fandom work. The creators of the show were like, "Yeah, we're not gonna put humans in the show, y'know? It would ruin our jive..." Which I get, but the point of fan-inspired creations is that they take the original and mold them as they see fit.

If you mean Iron Will, he just seems like a very anthro bull. The original minotaur was only a bull from the neck up, so clearly he's not meant to be a straight-up minotaur, the same way the diamond dogs seem to be both types of kobolds and griffins aren't trying to eat all the ponies.

I remember what you're talking about, but I can't remember if they said centaur or not. I'd imagine so, though, it's one of the few land-based creatures with human features that prevalent.

I don't really like the human!ponies simply because they tend to look either really wierd, anime, overly sexualized, or all of the above. (ie, the same reason I don't like anything cartoon from Japan that I've seen.)

1) I have a thing for humanized versions of the characters. Find the new designs fun to look at.

Although certain 'themes' tend to repeat themselves over and over again. Which is why it's refreshing to see someone do something new with the concept.

2) Kaiji, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Tiger and Bunny, Everything By Satoshi Kon. Maybe Serial Experiments Lain if you're into artsy things.

I'll give you more recommendations as you see fit and once I've actually watched a bit more in the way of anime.

Unless you're one of those guys who just doesn't like Anime/Manga period, which is okay too.

I find it fitting that Rarity is the character there doesn't seem to be a fanart "theme" for, as far as I can tell. Applejack is always a cowgirl (understandable), Fluttershy's in a sweater (we've talked about this), Twilight's in a sweatervest, Pinkie's in frilly or kiddie clothing, and Rainbow's either in tight athletic clothes or baggy "cool" clothes. But Rarity, she's all over the place. Pants suits, skirts, gowns, dresses, robes, and outfits that I can't identify. I mean, you can find the other five in different outfits, but not as easily or consistantly as Rarity. It must be related to the how often she's canonly seen wearing clothes compared to the others.

I mostly am, myself. I've watched a few minutes of a few things and found them not to my taste - including Princess Tutu, which I was trying very hard to like - with the minor exception of Steamboy and the major exception of Studio Ghibli's stuff.

I mean really, who could say no to this?

I imagine it's less to do with what she wears on the show than with what she does on the show: she designs and makes clothes. All kinds of clothes. Mostly fancy, yes, but it is not far off to say that her hallmark is variety.

Basically, it's been a fun ride, but I've come to associate this show with a ton of crap both personal and otherwise (but mainly personal). And while I'm not excluding the possibility of maybe picking up this show again at some point in the future, I haven't been watching any episodes for a while now and given my own thoughts and feelings at this point I feel it would be best to take a break from everything for...some amount of time.
