he empties his pockets onto the ledge in front of him. a dull brown wallet surfaces-- particularly unfashionable compared to luke's getup. a pack of full-flavored cigarettes and a lighter follow, then a sleek looking cellphone. finally, luke produces a business card for one "fiona mason." it's ... pretty.

luke eagerly obliges. he takes a few drags, eyes squinted and brow furrowed. plucking the card from the ledge before the wind steals it away, luke holds it close at eye-level for a better look. despite the strong smell of smoke, he detects something sweeter.

'i remember this smell-- vanilla? sort of. something old, like ... old books, i think. a librarian, maybe? or maybe she writes books. this card doesn't say what she does. i don't remember. did i ever know? ...'

it'd probably be more impressive if luke could navigate past the lock screen. it's locked by a four-digit key combination, and despite his best efforts, luke has no recollection of it.

unfortunately, the only way he'd be able to fathom a guess as to his phone number would be to look in the presently-inaccessible phone settings.

it's for the best, he wagers. between the low, hollow moan behind him and the frantic shuffling coupled with it, lucas fairweather figures he has company.
